Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

1st excuse my English. Thank you.

I would like to know my rights as a legal resident there when I am married to an American Citizen.

What can I do if I will be discriminated in going inside a rich restaurant or shopping at rich stores, and they don't want me inside because of my ethnicity? One of my friends from the Philippines went inside a store, she could afford to buy the store's products but she wasn't treated well because she is Asian. I don't want that to happen to me. Can I sue them? what about if others are too harsh on me; nasty words, disrespecting me, insulting where I came from, etc.. I can excuse 1-3times I think but if I couldn't take it anymore?

Please advice. Thank you very much!

After reading this whole thread (9 pages, I was really patient!) I can only shake my head.

Asianbeauty, I think your questions about what rights you have here in the US is a very good and valid one. Just when you threw in the "CAN I SUE THEM?", gave the whole topic a somewhat bitter taste.

"Can I complain to the manager or the store if I am getting discriminated?" Might have lead to very different responses, but you definitley sounded like you can't wait to find a reason to sue someone and make some money. Not saying this is your intention, but that's how you came across.

i don't think she meant it that way. she has more than likely heard how americans sue each other for almost anything. i think she was just asking about what rights she'd have when she got here. 1st excuse my English. Thank you. was my first clue not to take it at face value. people w/o much money are treated like trash in the philippines by stores & people w/ money.....but leave it to a member of the " friendly, helpful" VJ community to take a shot at her personally. then she tried to defend herself. & other members of the " friendly, helpful" VJ community decided its time to pile on.

That sums it up about right. There was a similar situation with a thread about a year ago by Filipina asking when is it okay to start asking her fiance for money. She was tarred and feathered for that one. Both sides pandering to stereotypes.

And rightfully so.

Perhaps. But I think in both cases, cultural differences affected how it was communicated and how people reacted to it.

I'm willing to bet my left "coconut" that she knew exactly what she was talking about.

I think the way some people jump on people here on VJ is pretty sad all the way around. It seems that most don't take the time to think about their response and how it might be interpreted. "But SHE started it!" Right? So what?

As far as the preaching, could it be written on toilet paper so that I may put it to good use later?

Jab with the regulars, Joe, but there's no need to pick on a newbie who's never even stepped off the plane yet. There are more tactful ways to call someone on their obvious absurdities without rubbing their nose in their own doo-doo. :star:
