I don't think she meant she was out to sue. I think her basic question is whether or not she has any recourse against discrimination.

No, I knew what she meant. It's just funny how that's the first thing of concern. IF she can sue.

A chance at "free" money? Sure why the hell not. I see she posted another thread in the K1 forum asking about qualifying income. Does 1+1 actually equal 2?

I cant just sue anybody unless I have evidences of course, I just wanted to know my rights in advance, is that not being smart huh? rights about racial discriminations when applying for work, not being treated well, etc. I believe I have to know that. Now I do know my rights because someone nice had to paste the link here.

As for Joemama, you look asian too. Are you asian, coz you look like one, really. You look more of a Filipino guy.

Pangit.

hey asianbeauty

why you call him pangit (ugly)? you think your really that beautiful?.... if there is someone who is "discriminating" her? its you gurl.

your acting like a kid!!

not so beautiful I think, but at least a bit pretty, LOL. He wasnt nice, If he is really a filipino man he should have been nicer. Maybe he denies where he is really from?

1st excuse my English. Thank you.

I would like to know my rights as a legal resident there when I am married to an American Citizen.

What can I do if I will be discriminated in going inside a rich restaurant or shopping at rich stores, and they don't want me inside because of my ethnicity? One of my friends from the Philippines went inside a store, she could afford to buy the store's products but she wasn't treated well because she is Asian. I don't want that to happen to me. Can I sue them? what about if others are too harsh on me; nasty words, disrespecting me, insulting where I came from, etc.. I can excuse 1-3times I think but if I couldn't take it anymore?

Please advice. Thank you very much!

just curious....

what is your purpose in going to the US? shopping? dining in expensive restaurant?.....

where ever you go "discrimination" is always there even here in the philippines.... if you want people to respect you, be nice to you...you should be nice and respectful to them too.

its really up to you gurl on how you handle the situation whatever its is.... just be yourself and be nice... and be patients.. God Bless you!

My purpose to go there is to marry my fiance, we'll of course go shopping as well, once in awhile we'll go to an expensive restaurants/ shopping at stores selling signatured stuff... yes, be nice and I will be nice, someone not being nice so i told him pangit, lol, which is true. i am always nice in posting questions here, but some people really like to say things that are not nice so.

I am proud to be pinay! not a closet pinay, unlike others.

hey sis (asianbeauty)... calm down. calm down everyone. B)

being a fiancee of a white guy, i thought 100 times (or even more) whether i will move with him or not. to be honest, it's not easy. so i understand how asianbeauty feels right now.

sis, sometimes i prefer to google some of my questions than opening a thread here. with all the topics that were started im sure there are some of them which will answer your questions. but if you find nothing then try to seek answers from our co-VJers. since you are still new at this forum, it's a good thing to read back. you can also post at the regional (Philippines) forum. Many Filipinas who were married to Americans can really give you more insights. Regarding discrimination, i was already warned about that by my fiance. i dont see it as a problem for now. PM me if you want to ask anything. peace to all...

It seems I missed all the fun last night! So I got called "ugly" in Filipino? Big deal. I know I'm about as beautiful as a person can be. :D I don't hide the real person I am behind a fake photo of a magazine model. At least, you could have chosen a 1/2 decent model of real "beauty". ;) I know who I am, what I am, and there's nothing you can do to make me feel otherwise. I will not give you approval to make me feel inferior. As I have obviously, done to you.

If I were allow you to do that to me, I would be upset too. But I'm not. ;)

Your quote had me laughing so hard!

There is a word for this type of person....hmmmm....GOLD DIGGER!!!!!!!! BLAYAD!!!!

I have a whole family of pinays that are in their old age now. Your so-called "physical beauty" is not going to last forever. :D

Yes, I am Filipino and proud of it. I'm American first and foremost. I was born here. I don't need to dig for gold. Whenever I choose to go to another country, acting ignorant while being arrogant, is something I don't see that will help you. Most Americans aren't going to tolerate you and you're not going to find yourself being happy here. If this is the way you're going to respond to people here in the USA, I don't think your soon-to-be husband will be getting very much attention. You're going to be spending most of your time filing complaints against everyone who you think is not being nice and believing they have discriminated against you. On this last note, WELCOME TO THE USA!!!!!

LOL. I am new to this site, but not new in posting to a forum. My kabayan , “AsianBeauty” if you think some people replying to your post isn’t being nice to you you don’t have to be like them. I think your question was smart. I never thought about that. You gave me an idea to know every right before living there. I’m still waiting for my visa. I just read the link to the rights of immigrants. It is good for us to be a legal alien and know our right, and good to know there is a law against racial discrimination too. Wherever you go there will always be people who will be rude, you don’t have to give them your time, not worth it. Some people on forums are nice some are and laugh at other people’s question, just ignore them when it happens to you again

I want to know my rights as well does it make me a gold digger?

COCONUTS?, ROFL. Yeah, some pinoys are!

This post has been kinda funny. In many ways it is a "welcome to America" thread. My gal has a similar situation, but from the opposite side of the coin. As a new employee of a retail store, a customer ask Jen if they had her size in a pair of shoes. Jen says "no maam, what we have on the rack is all we have in stock." So, this "nasty" customer snaps at her and says "you don't understand English little girl, let me see your manager." Was the customer mean? Yes. Was she a bitchz? Yes. Was she discriminating because my wife is a filipino? I doubt it. Many people in America are just stupid and rude I tell her, don't take it personal. As for suing, I'm not sure the damages that you MIGHT obtain would ever recover the court/lawyer costs put out or make-up for the pain in the ####### of going to court.

Unfortunately there are ####### everywhere including here. Most people here are very nice and helpful. I pay very close attention to how people are around my wife and make sure I protect her always. Once in awhile I will notice someone making comments about Mexicans and I will be the first to stand up and correct the misinformation they have. My wife doesn't look Mexican and her english is pretty good. She gets a little nervous once in a while and will speak slowly to make she she is understood. Most of the time everyone is very polite with her, especially if I am with her. I want my wife to love America as much as I do and for her life here to be happy. I would live anywhere to be with my wife just as she has done to be with me.

Good lord, if I asked about discrimination in America in a language I didn't write all that well, and got called a gold digger because I wanted to know my rights, I'd probably call someone names, too.

Anyhow, there are laws against discrimination in the U.S. but it's never an easy thing to prove, and most of the laws are concerned with housing and government services. And laws against discrimination don't prevent someone from being personally racist. Sad to say, you'll probably experience some racism, but it'll get easier with time.
