Wow well that was some read....

Only thing that I can comment on about the whole thread is why would someone get engaged to a man they have never met?????? how do you know that you will even like the person.... how people discribe themselves on the internet may be very diffrent from who they really are in real life.... I know I could never make a life long dicision about my life and immigrating to another country based on a on-line relationship where I had not actually met the person.... I am amazed..... the OP is already trying to work out what her life will be like here in the US and thats before she has met the man....

maybe I am just old fashioned.... or just old!!!!!

I think you are forgetting the fact that their families think they are a great fit!!! Like that doesn't count!!

This post, by sbgwolf1 is from the thread linked to in an earlier post: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...st&p=355664

I told my fiancee in the PI's about this thread. After laughing about it she said 'I can't believe some people. Sometimes I hate being from here because of how some people are. Its embarassing'....haha

Side note...if its his 'responsibility' before you ever get here...what is your 'responsibility' to him. Also, before he came over, what did you do for money? You remind me of an ex of mine. I went and visited her, the day after I left, she quit her job (no I didnt ask her to, she did it to run around with her family). She lived with her family and was well off (OK, yes well off...2 computers in that house, they owned an SUV, shopped often, dvd player, ect.) I was informed later I was supposed to have left her money when I left (say what? she had a job at that moment and they were not needing in any way). I was later told since we were engaged that she was completely my responsibilty and her family cut her off....(again, go get a job..you quit for no reason). I was then asked to fly her AND HER AUNT to Bangkok for new years (excuse me?? NO!!!). She had NO concept of money or the fact I am working two jobs to support myself and eventually us........Needless to say it didn't work out, she even had someone else at the same time!!! My question is....where do these crazy misconceptions come from?

Could it be that THIS is one of the reasons for some of the responses in this particular thread? Just an idea here....not speculating anything further.

LOUIS VUITTON! ?

It seems I missed all the fun last night! So I got called "ugly" in Filipino? Big deal. I know I'm about as beautiful as a person can be. :D I don't hide the real person I am behind a fake photo of a magazine model. At least, you could have chosen a 1/2 decent model of real "beauty". ;) I know who I am, what I am, and there's nothing you can do to make me feel otherwise. I will not give you approval to make me feel inferior. As I have obviously, done to you.

If I were allow you to do that to me, I would be upset too. But I'm not. ;)

Your quote had me laughing so hard!

"My purpose to go there is to marry my fiance, we'll of course go shopping as well, once in awhile we'll go to an expensive restaurants/ shopping at stores selling signatured stuff... yes, be nice and I will be nice, someone not being nice so i told him pangit, lol, which is true. i am always nice in posting questions here, but some people really like to say things that are not nice so.

I am proud to be pinay! not a closet pinay, unlike others.

There is a word for this type of person....hmmmm....GOLD DIGGER!!!!!!!! BLAYAD!!!!

I have a whole family of pinays that are in their old age now. Your so-called "physical beauty" is not going to last forever. :D

Yes, I am Filipino and proud of it. I'm American first and foremost. I was born here. I don't need to dig for gold. Whenever I choose to go to another country, acting ignorant while being arrogant, is something I don't see that will help you. Most Americans aren't going to tolerate you and you're not going to find yourself being happy here. If this is the way you're going to respond to people here in the USA, I don't think your soon-to-be husband will be getting very much attention. You're going to be spending most of your time filing complaints against everyone who you think is not being nice and believing they have discriminated against you. On this last note, WELCOME TO THE USA!!!!!

Ok, filipino Joe, LOL you sound like you don't like pinays, so you got yourself a white lady, LOL. Buying signatured stuff doesn't mean a person is a gold digger I love Louis Viouton bags, so when I am there I plan to go shopping at their stores and not to worry about it's authenticity, ya know. So if that store wont let me in because I look asian discriminate me to shop and probably will think I cant afford to buy any of their stuff, they will let me out, so I asked what can I do, just in case? No, I didn't mean to say filing complaints all the time when ppl like you are rude, knowing my rights when I am there, is what I meant. Stores wont let me in for being asian which is open to public but wont let me in, can I sue them. Ignorant, yeah when I didn't know the the rights of immigrants but now I do, because I asked question, and I got answers. knowing your rights in advance wont mean being arrogant, that's being wise.

I could not believe a Filipino man my country man could be so rude to a filipina. You were born and raised there, but still you are Filipino in blood.

do u speak tagalog?

But.......but.......I still want to bash her! :crying:

Actually, that made me LOL.

This is never ending. Some of you like to bash, LOL, ok, have fun! How helpful they are, LOL

I didn’t mean to say to sue everyone who are rude, or sue every rude ppl that I will encounter, rude people are everywhere, the smart ones will just have to ignore them, stay away. I meant to say this person will be rude all the time when he sees me, for example calling names, saying things that are bad,’’filipinas are gold diggers’, that hurts, I said I can excuse few times what if he/she does that so often???. Yes, I am well-off in the Philippines, but I wont be rich in America, hiring housekeepers is not possible for me there. I heard from some other people who are rich, some of the sales clerks give them that look, I am not stupid to sue them because they are not nice, that’s a waste of time. I meant to say, I wont be accepted eating at a restaurant because I am asian and that because I am from the poor country even though I can afford to eat there. I don’t mean to say I will sue them when they are not being nice, so I can have free money; just that they will discriminate me because I am asian and when they discriminate me for being asian, can I sue them?, (racial discrimination). Thank you to those who told me that.

As for my question in the other room, I wanted straight answer. It is my life, I am old enough to know what to do except of course the visa processing that’s why I am here.

“Can my fiancée sponsor me even before meeting in person”? the answer is no, why some people has to say so many words. And I really appreciate those who gave me straight answer, “No, you can’t you have to meet in person first….”, THAT’S IT’, but giving me parental advice?, or other than answering straight, I don’t need that. Although you can comment, I couldn’t stop you. That’s waste of your time. And, I just wanted to talk about the visa process really. None of your business!!!

And another question I asked which was repeated here again was about income I wanted to know how much my fiancée has to earn in order for him to qualify to sponsor me. I got straight answer, thank you very much, but then from the tone of a Fil-am guy it’s just like because I talked about suing and income he thinks differently like I am suing for free money. I appreciate those who answered politely, something like, “ AsianBeauty, if ppl are rude to you, saying nasty words, just stay away, or report to the manager, there is a law on discrimination, read immigrants rights here.... Some said there are laws on racial discrimination and pasted a good link here… which was helpful, thanks to those who pasted the link to immigrants rights, not a lot of blahs, ‘why is that your concern, blah blah, never helpful…

I cant just sue anybody there because they the waitress/waiters don’t smile at me while eating at a restaurant, there must be good reason. “why do I have to think of that knowing my rights in advance when I am not even there yet??? because I have heard lots from other fellow country men who has experienced racial discrimination. It could happen to me. And, thanks to those who answered politely. And, why some of you have to repeat my other questions if it has been answered already?, like meeting in person, and qualifying income, it’s like you wanna pick a fight, LOL, ok, you can have fun, enjoy it.

Some of you just judge right away, and your answers are not helpful, just to make fun really. I don’t mean all of you! Why couldn’t some of you regulars here answer politely and straight to the question??? I was like huh? What kind of forum is this?, a bashing room? Can’t you just answer questions without being sarcastic, straight answer?, hello, none of your business! if I asked if my fiancé can sponsor me even without meeting in person, can he, or cant?, your blah blah blahs, is not helpful and see that I am adult? Parental guidance is not needed, what I need is visa processing ideas/tips/suggestions.

Mind your own business, and talk about the process, will you?, to those who likes bashing, ok, have fun!, to those who answered straight and talked to me about the process, thank you very much! Or maybe bashing is part of this forum?, ok, maybe you’re very proud now of your bashing responses. Never helpful!

And, to the Korean guy, who feels superior, flat nose me? LOL, ugly me?, hey, we wouldn’t have won 2 miss universe title if all are ugly here, Chinese/Spanish/Filipino is very common here, there are lots of us here. I myself is one of them. I have been to your country with banks that don’t allow Filipinos. I speak fluent mandarin I could pretend I am Chinese but no, I am still flipino and I am proud of it. Poor country so what but not all are poor here. Gold diggers?, not all! There are gold diggers every where! Say that while you’re here, you’ll be back in Korea inside a coffin, ooops…(joking)

Enough.

Now, I think I can sue him, LOL. Nah, just screw him.

Ok, keep bashing and enjoy it! your answers would be very very helpful, LOL, be proud of your bashing, thanks!

I am just wondering..did you have any negative experience before when you were in he US? Or is this just something you expect or fear to happen because you heard this from others?

I am just curious. My MIL is filippina and I know she kinda has this attitude as well even I never experienced that anyone was unfriendly or discriminating towards her....

To even have the ideal of Filipino's being discriminated during this day and age in the US, someone's been given her a whole bunch of bad information. Because of this thread, I asked my father who immigrated to the US in the late 1950's from the Philippines, about his experience with discrimination. He's still got his accent, very much "Filipino-looking", and he said that he's never had any experience with discrimination in the US. We've lived in Maryland, Rhode Island, as well as multiple California cities, i.e. San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Waterford. I will tell you about Waterford. Moved there in 1977. We were the first Filipino family to move to this little central California hick town. It was a as white as a town could be. Confederate flags and the music of Lynyrd Skynyrd were the norm. Not once can I recall while growing up in this town, were we ever discriminated against. We went everywhere without incident. That's why I came to the conclusion someone has been feeding this girl a lot of garbage about our society. Whomever she knows that is living here and telling her these things, I do not doubt that Americans are just rude or abrasive toward them often because of "their" attitude. Not their race. I have 2 businesses here. If I don't like a customer's attitude, I absolutely never do business with them again. I don't have the tolerance for such people. I don't care what race they are. I've had Filipinos act the same way. They knew I was of Filipino heritage. Did that matter to them and their attitude toward me? No. I don't know if they were expecting preferential treatment. I certainly did not give it to them. From my previous posts in this thread, because the OP is a Filipina, and I am Filipino, I was not going to give special treatment solely because of her race. That would be "Un-American" and absolutely discriminating. Probably the only thing even remotely close to me giving them preferential treatment in business, was that I sent away clients and had them never wanting to patronize my business again. I can choose my customers for my businesses. If they do not like me, they are free to go to another business. It's freedom of choice. That's what America is all about baby!

If this Filipina can understand what was just said, and she passes her interview to get here, she'll know that any American that appears or is rude to her, will be solely based on "her" attitude toward them. It won't be because of her race. ;)

Yeah, your story about growing up pretty much is what my hubby, who is half filipino also, experienced as well. Well, they were an Air Force family and lived overseas a lot of the time, but still...

Before I came to the US I worked on an US Army base and came in touch with a lot of the military spouses and I definitley experienced exactly what you mentioned: Abrasive and rejecting behaviour against their attitude, not their race. How I know the difference? There were many filipinas who had no problems there whatsoever because their whole attitude was entirely different. As a matter of fact, I heard comments about how "embarrassed" they were for those other women there.

There is a saying, not sure if it's german or if there is an american equivalent and it says: "The way you shout into the forest, the way it will come back to you"...basically.."the way you talk to people, that's the way they will talk back to you...."

This is the part i dont understand. No one cares that your asian. And your not going to be shunned from a "rich" resturant bc you are asian. Im not bashing you, i think your trying to find reasons for discrimination on your own. You have it in your head that it could happen and you assume it will. If thats the additude your going to have when you get here, then OMG it will happen. And remember, no one is going to be mean or rude to you if you are not insulting, rude or mean to them. If you act like your too good for someone, yea, dont expect a hug.

Did i hear correctly you had never met your fiance in person??? how can a k1 be petitioned without having met since one of the major requirments is to meet in person within the last 2 years.

again not bashing

if you have no filed for k1 yet, then disregard the question at the bottom. if you have, you need to complete your timeline.

I think we're done bashing her at this point, nane1104.

If I may answer that, in another topic the OP stated that her bf/fiance is going to come to visit her in her country.
