A second name check pending?!! Just plain weird

Ok so this is just plain odd. After over two years 'pending' with my FBI name check every now and then just for giggles I head to my local office for an Infopass apt.

I was feeling particularly wasteful on Friday so thought what better way to waste gas and time than to pop in and say hi to the cheery officers in there. (Actually the officers aren't that bad) Anyway to cut a long story short she tells me I now have a second name check that had been sent out within the last month and that was also pending!! She doesn't know why it was sent or by whom just that i now have two.

Has any body else had this or heard of it/ know why its done etc because i am beyond perplexed.

I would say that maybe they lost the original file but if that was the case how would they know to order it again????????

Extremely weird.

Have you ever had your elected officials check into your case? They do have connections who could possibly clear this up. They might not be able to do anything to speed up the case, but they sure enough could tell if it's been cocked up.

My local senator has looked into it but to be honest they just send me a letter every now and again saying that i'm still pending - along with those damn sheets telling you 'how and why the process works' so i'm no better off.

USCIS, FBI etc pretty much say shut up and wait you annoying woman. (But not in so many words )

So i got a return call from the Senators office this morning and explained this to her, she just kept saying well some people wait three years for their name check. When she finally got it that this wasn't the first one but a second she backed off a little. She seems to think this is really odd too. I suggested that maybe they had lost my file and she went a bit quiet and said she would make some phonecalls. Though first she tried telling me it was because i had had my fingerprints taken a second time though i don't recall ever seeing anyone else getting a second name check done for this reason either.

Just a thought.

Due to the fact that you have been married over two years, perhaps they are doing the second name check because you will be getting the 10 year card.

I do not know if they normally do another name check for lifting conditions.

I'm glad you got the congressional staffers attention finally. I'd give her a few days and then follow up with her.

I doubt you've got a second name check pending. I think it's just a check of that second set of prints. That, however, should only take 24 hours or so.

Do you know if your District Office is one of the particularly busy ones? If so, the potential is there for your file to lie on someone's desk even though they are 'ready' to issue your card.

The normal process (after name clearance) is for the file to be signed off on by the AO and then a supervisor. If a second set of prints has been taken, that has to clear before the AO can sign off. This process should only take a couple of weeks at most if the office is not swamped. If they are, your file is lying there waiting for the AO to get to it - same with the supervisor. In cases like that, it sometimes takes persistence to get the card issued in a timely matter.

She definately said it was a second name check. She knew it was not the same as the other because they had included my middle name with this second one. Duh would you not have thought they would do that with the first one too??!!

Included your middle name? That makes no sense. One reason this process takes so long is because FBI searches the given, middle and surname. They search it re-arranged, in various permutations, and also phonetically.

Who is 'she' that you spoke to in your District Office? A person of any authority? I'm not saying there's NO CHANCE she's telling you the truth, but it does sound to me like she could be misinformed.
