I have to cross the border multiple times a week, and I have my doubts that a flimsy extension letter will last 4 years before it falls apart.

However, CPR's can get re-entry permits, even with a pending I-751. The permit will be valid up to 2 years depending on the expiry of the GC extension. Given that we've effectively been given a 4-year green card with these extensions, I figure I may as well file for a re-entry permit, if anything to have a more robust document when entering the US, and leave the extension letter at home. Expensive, I know, but it's insurance more than anything for me.

Anyone know if stapling the I-751 extension in your passport is a no-no or not?

I'm guessing land entry? Get yourself a Nexus card and present that.  I've traveled a lot with my extension letter during ROC, and it's still in great shape. Came folded in an envelope and I kept it folded in a small document holder

The interview might actually be scheduled before the 6 years is up.

I feel like the best kept secret of Global Entry is trying walk ins - you're able to attempt a walk in at any airport interview station and often if it's not busy they'll interview you on the spot, even if your interview is months/years away.

This is insane... But I have international travel coming up and my 24 month extension is expiring later this year, so I am fine. I just hope that they will actually send updated extension letters for existing petitions!

Just get an i551 stamp, it's not that bad. It's actually better to have the stamp as it shows expiration date in the future.

I have a Nexus card, but I still present my GC along side it, and I imagine, I'd need to still present the extension letter too.

A Nexus card alone should allow you to cross US / Canada border in both directions. Try presenting just the Nexus card next time.

I think it is.  After 40 months of waiting for the I-751 to be approved, my wife filed her N-400.  4 months later, BOTH the I-751 and N-400 were approved.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

So what happens to people who applied 18 months ago and only got 24 months extension? Do they have to get ADIT stamp or get in touch with USCIS for a new letter.

Letters should be sent to those, but it's not guaranteed. It's best to get a stamp at 23 months of waiting (they won't give appointment earlier). It's a risk though, because often when giving stamp, USCIS takes GC. And if LPR receives 48 month extension letter later, it would be useless. Stamp is only good for 1 year, whereas letter may be giving 2+ years of extension, depending when LPR receives it.

From the news release:

We will issue new receipt notices to eligible conditional permanent residents who previously received notices with an extension shorter than 48 months and whose cases are still pending

USCIS does not want to issue ADIT stamps any more. 2022 made that obvious.

So of you don’t get your letter 90 days before your current extension letter expires, contact USCIS to resolve your missing letter.

Avoid an ADIT stamp because some field offices will seize your gc if you get a stamp.

Let's face it, what USCIS really should be doing is sending us actual conditional gcs with a new expiry date for 48 months from now. It's stupid to have to carry a letter around with you.
