Would you rather have to try getting an infopass appointment at USCIS for an ADIT stamp?  Appointments are not easy to get.

You are correct. 
 

Timeline:

 

* November 1986 - I-751 starts. 12 month extension  stickers / stamps
 

* June 2018 - goes from 12 to 18 months 

 

*  September 2021 -  18 to 24 months. 

 

* January 2023 - 24 to 48 months 

 

Plotting the curve, we can predict when a conditional card will be a 10 year card:

 

 

The origin point 0, 1 is 1986 when 2 year cpr status rolled out. 
 

1986 + 37.35 = April/May  2023 is when the math predicts  USCIS will roll out 8 year extension letters.  

 

The argument for  CR-1 over  I-495 just got a lot weaker.

My point is that this rule seems to indicate there is no intention of improving timelines, quite the contrary, to deliberately extend them. There was at least a decent chance at getting approved within 24 months before with the hope of improvement.

I think we will see some of such people file N-400. Get the combo interview, withdraw N-400 after I-751 is approved.

There has never been any hope of improvement. I-751s have never been mentioned in any of those projected improved targets.  The I-751 remains a cash cow for USCIS, allowing them to collect the client's money, sit on it, get MORE money for the N-400.....then process both at a combo interview.  At least this 48 month letter allows most folks to have evidence of LPR status longer before having to get an infopass appointment.

I wasn't referring to you personally, but I think you are right, and at some point in the future we will start seeing posts on how to withdraw their N400 after the combo interview.

I wish I had looked a couple weeks ago.  Passport appointments are scarce around here.  Most acceptance centers are booked solid 4 weeks out. Yesterday, I got lucky and found one a week after her oath.
