My two cents:

1) The conspiracy theorist in me tells me they are forcing people to apply for N400 (I know some don't want to) ,N400's are taking as short as two months now and it has been the case that immigrants are more likely to vote Democrat.

2) Many goverment decisions are pointless in the sense that they apply AFTER the fact and NOT BEFORE. I751's take long? Increase the time to 36 months where in reality it's possible that I751 will actually start to get shorter (covid backlog dying down, N400's taking waaaaay shorter and the need to adjust I751 ,.....) but the hand wave approach is to increase the time for now.

As for the fraud, I think the whole point of I751 is to make fraud harder and not prevent it. People are not going to share bank accounts,go to trips  and file tax returns if they don't trust each other on a spouse level and some love (At least is involved). I don't think it takes more than a few days to actually look through someones file and just tick the check boxes.

My Potomac extension was only 24 months - received by them January 9 :(

Well that's just really weird. We have almost the same timeline too.

@FatzJD that's kinda the subject of the thread. People seem to receive 36 months letters for freshly submitted I-751 petitions. I think this should be across all service centers. During transition people may be receiving a mix of 24 and 36 months letters until everybody start receiving 36.

You're right. I guess we're one of the few people they started sending the 36mons.

Oh well Im just glad we have the noa now. Wont be stressing until the n400 next year

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Some scammers will play the "game" until they get their green card.  Then, they divorce and move on as is their master plan.

So this'll be a fascinating case of an A/B study between our two cases. Maybe I got especially selected for rapid processing? 🤣

In reality I'm guessing it's a clerical error and the envelope stuffer gave me one of the old letters, or it arbitrarily switched on a different day last week.

@FatzJD did you submit with USPS or courier? That's the only other difference I could think of...

I think you did not read my statement. Anything higher than 55 percent is fine, especially in states with a changing demographic.

Voting aside claiming we have x number of new citizens looks better for a dem USCIS director than claiming we have removed y number of restrictions.

We sent our package with usps. Our noa was dated 01/13 but we just received it today. You could be right about the days, maybe they started sending the 36mons at the end of that week or could also be not all the staff knows to send the 36mons since its new. Always a guessing game with uscis

Thanks. Mine was UPS so wonder if the USPS folks are getting the letters first for some weird reason...

The point is to make it harder and raise the bar. You can't put people in a lie detector machine.

My point is that the I-751 doesn't make it harder.  It adds an unneeded burden on any couple not married for 2 years upon entering the US.   It took USCIS 44 months to approve my wife's ROC.  I guess, it would have taken a few more years had we not submitted her N-400.

I read your comment.  I was, in no way, challenging what you said.  As I stated, not all new citizens vote for a particular party.

They should just abolish the ROC. I understand it is to prevent marriage fraud, but I think the fraud prevention can be done during the Naturalization interview for permanent residents who obtained residency through marriage.

Not everyone naturilizes. This approach has many flaws.

They need to scrutinize marriage based adjustments more and just get rid of ROC.

Good. So now they’re going to roll out the 36 month extension letter to all us 2022 filers, instead of using that man force to work on 751 cases that should be approved in two days at most

Unbelievable....I filed in May '22...got 24 months letter.  ..hopefully I don't get the new extension letter now.Still gonna file for N-400 upcoming May
