We might need co-sponsor. Did anyone have a co-sponsor or is it really not accepted in Manila?

We want to prepare the requirements asap but before we do, we just want to make sure it will be considered in the embassy. We dont want to waste our potential co-sponsor's time.

Thanks

If your petitioner dont meet the above percent poverty (that is above 125%)needed then you might need to have a co-sponsor. My fiance got a co-sponsor because he had not filed for an ITR for the previous 3 years due to some reasons and that he only got a job this year....Thus, if you are working and your income is above the 125%poverty line then you really dont need a co-sponsor especially if you have your ITR for the previous 3 years. And with regards with your other query yes they do accept co-sponsorship at the USEM.. GOOd Luck :)

great! exactly what i want to hear (read).

we were really worried about this. my fiance was here in the philippines for the past 4 years and lived off his savings. he's back in the US and should start working again next week although his estimated annual gross earnings might not meet the 125% requirement and that's why we want to get a co-sponsor. His grandmother and a friend are willing to do it.

please tell me it was for K1... hehe

i read somewhere that co-sponsors are accepted for K3 but not for K1.

Although Jaynel confirms that they do accept joint sponsors for K1 (based on her experience). Im beggining to think it's a case to case basis...

It's not clear to me from her post whether they accepted her fiance's current income that met the requirement for sponsorship or if they used the cosponsor. Just because they prepared the paperwork for a cosponsor does not indicate that was the basis for approving the visa.

It is always on a case to case basis. Even in those cases where they do accept a cosponsor, they take a hard look at the relationship to the cosponsor and make a subjective ruling based on whether they believe the cosponsor would truly offer financial support if needed. You can expect that acquaintances would be much less likely to be accepted than close relatives.

If you do end up using a cosponsor, it would be quite valuable to this forum to know the result. Let us know if it is accepted or not and what the relationship to the cosponsor is.

Great! That would be first-hand information. So far in the past couple of years, I've seen "I know someone who..." or "I heard about a case that..." with no depth of information as to whether it was actually accepted or if it was offerred, but the support was satisfied without it or what the relationship to the sponsor was, etc...

I am very wary of the legitimacy of any type of second-hand information--not that it is passed on in good faith, but it's accuracy cannot be verified and information becomes fuzzy as it is passed along.

I also think the absence of any first-hand accounts of a K1 cosponsor success is somewhat revealing as to it's possible success.

I don't know why they just don't give a straight answer on this. My fiancee called the help center last week and I have to get the name of the person she talked too, and was told co-sponsers are not allowed for K1. I wanted to know because initially we'll be living with my parents for the first few months and then getting our own place. So I wanted to know if I needed a co-sponsor from my parents because we were living in their place. I'de call, but I'm sure whoever I talk to would give a different answer. I'm just gonna ask them to do a co-sponsor and if the interviewer asks for it at least my fiancee will have the papers. Play it safe.
