Hello,

I have traveled from Canada to Usa on Indian passport with USA tourist visa and while being in USA, I got my Canadian citizenship oath taken and have to apply for Canadian passport which I will be getting soon in USA. the question is how can I update my i94 with the new passport once I receive my Canadian passport while not leaving the country? I know I can go back to Canada and come back to USA on Canadian passport that will update my I94 at the port of entry. I am looking for option if I can do it while am in Country.

Once I have Canadian passport issued, I will have to surrender my Indian Passport/Citizenship so if I will be flying back how the USA gov will know that I have entered on Indian passport and leaving the country on Canadian passport if I have to leave the country to update I94.

Thank you in advance.

You entered on an  Indian passport.  I don’t see how you can expect  CBP to change the passport of entry to Canadian, especially when at the time you entered the USA:

* you weren’t even a Canadian when you entered the USA

* you didn’t have a Canadian passport.  What date of issue is CBP supposed to use for a passport issued after you enter?

If CBP routinely altered records like this, more countries would require Americans to get a visa.

Speaking of putting a county’s visa waiver at risk, I’m still reeling from the revelation that Canada lets PRs take oath from outside Canada.

After you leave the USA, you can correct your I-94 record if it still shows you in the USA.

You’re in the US on vacation, and trying to have a new Canadian passport sent here? Why?   Why not just go home and get it there?

And anyway:  no, there is no way to go back and “update” or change what citizenship you were when you entered the US.   That would simply be falsifying a fact of something that happened.
