Hi

I’m confused about which last name I should have put on the applications.

On my marriage certificate, I agrred to have a new surname, which is my husband’s last name.

However, on the aos applications, I thought I had to put my last name as it is on my foreign passport.

Was I supposed to put my new surname?

Put the new married name if you want to have Green Card in married name.

List your maiden name in Other Names Used.

For USCIS, you can use any combination of the names on your marriage certificate.

Mary Smith marries John Doe

Mary can use Mary Smith, Mary Doe, Mary Smith Doe, Mary-Smith-Doe, etc.

One thing to note, after receiving your GC with married name, it's best to change your foreign passport to match your GC name.

Alternative would be to carry your marriage certificate + passport + GC for travel. This may create some confusion and slow down at airline check in and immigration.

what name do u want to be on ur GC? if u want to have ur married name on ur GC, use ur married name on AOS application. the evidence is ur marriage certificate

u can still use ur maiden name on ur passport and dont need to change it if u dont want to

when u travel, u can bring ur passport, GC ( in the future ) and marriage certificate if there's discrepancy
