Ok, I'm posting this in the MENA forum because I know a lot of you have had experience with this.

This morning my phone was ringing off the hook at 5am. When I answered it, it was a very friendly Chief CO from the US embassy in Liberia. He told me that he had my fiance's case on his desk for investigation and had been trying several times to reach my fiance and was wanting to go find him at his house and meet him (this sure woke me up out of my sleep!). Well, I told him that my fiance should be at work now and that since he couldn't reach him by phone he should try calling his two bosses and a co-worker. I gave him all three numbers and he thanked me. I told him that I know he can't give me too much info, but if he could please let me know if there is a problem and why are we being investigated? He laughed and said not to worry and it was because our documents all had recent dates so they needed to be verified. We did scramble at the last min to get certified copies of house deeds, Birth certificates, divorce decrees, financial documents, etc. and it does make sense as to how that can look fishy.

Fast forward 3 hours to 3 hours later. I call my fiance when I get to work and I asked him what the CO told him. Come to find out, the CO never called him. He never had missed calls on his phone and his bosses didn't either. I got confused because the CO made it sound sooo urgent to speak with him and find him, but yet, no one else had heard from this guy except me. What could be going on? Was he just trying to test my knowledge? Can they do field investigations over the phone?? If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate them.

Here is a little background history. My fiance had his K-1 interview last Tuesday, the 17th, in Liberia. The interview went very well and they told him that they lost his medical exam and they need him to come back on August 14th to turn in the medical again. He was given a white sheet of paper with this same info. When I called the embassy, they said not to worry about the medical and that he was under verfication checks that would be completed in a week (two weeks at the most). I called DOS and they also said the same thing. Well, today is the 4th business day and this call comes from the CO. Anyway, thanks for any help!

I'd say they are just in a verification process. Asking questions like this can put someone off guard and they are making a last effort to assure your relationship is legitimate. I wouldn't worry. They may have been only verifying his employment in a creative way...and yes test YOUR knowledge of HIM. Also, numbers, and names you give, matching what maybe he gave in an interview or someone else may give in a week is a good test of legitimacy. But I do think they are closing in on getting your visa issued. Good luck

Thanks, this is exactly what I am beginning to think. That would explain why he called me in the middle of my sleep. He was aware of the time difference and kept apologizing for waking me up. I was really sleepy and out of it at first, but when I heard "consular officer" and "embassy" and "investigation" I was wide awake, lol. I just got off the phone with my fiance again and he said none of them have received calls at all, lol. I have to admit, the CO sure was creative with his snooping. I'm glad he wasn't able to catch me off guard because I think I gave him more info than he wanted, lol.
