CR1 application - supporting docs for interview (merged)

Hi all, application is with NVC so just trying to get my ducks in a row for the interview (not yet scheduled).

I am living in London; my wife is living in the US.

I am clear on most of the documents that need to be taken to the interview, but the State Department website for the London Consulate states that for family based applications I should also have:

  • The appropriate Form I-864 Affidavit of Support for each financial sponsor along with a photocopy of the sponsor’s IRS transcript or most recent U.S. federal income tax return, and any relevant W-2s.
  • Proof of your U.S. petitioner’s status and domicile in the United States (photocopy of a U.S. passport, naturalization certificate, or lawful permanent resident card).
  • Evidence of the relationship between the petitioner and visa applicant (such as photographs, letters, or emails).

Source: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Supplements/Supplements_by_Post/LND-London.html#pre_interview_checklist

For I-864, proof of her income, and her passport, of course she has already uploaded electronic copies to the NVC.

For evidence of the relationship, we collated and submitted a big document of photos and airline tickets during the I-130 process (which was approved) - this is our main plank of evidence apart from our marriage certificate, as we have always been residing separately in the UK and US respectively.

Am I reading it right that I should
1. print copies of the I-864 submission confirmation, her IRS transcript/W2/payslips/letter confirming job from her employer, and her passport

2. physically print the evidence of relationship (which is a pretty hefty doc of photos etc.), as well as updating it to present date?

Just really looking to confirm what physical docs are required. (I am clear on the requirements for physical originals of my own docs - passport, birth certificate, police certificates, etc.)

Any recent experiences and insights would be very welcome!

spouse needs to send u (the UK) the original I 864 and IRS transcript  (all pages even if they do not correspond to her tax status) or copy of 1040 with W2(s), any 1099 or 1099R if submitted with latest  tax returns

u need you criminal report , birth certificate and marriage certificate need to be originals plus any other documents submiitted to NVC

but her US domcile would be a copy

a few photos and / or copies of boarding pass(es)

Don't expect the CO to actually look at these

London embassy never asks to see this information at the interview so don’t spend a lot of time stressing over it or printing it out. I recall one super dodgy case of 18 yo son petitioning father where they wanted more clarification. If you are a genuine couple, no problem and not needed.

this page on the London Embassy page could be helpful. Scroll down to the part that starts “Case processed by National Visa Center (NVC)” which applies to you. https://uk.usembassy.gov/visas/family-immigration/how-to-apply-2/ The first half of the page applied to those that apply straight to embassy and skip NVC processing. Also, there are a number of FAQs linked on the right column that are helpful to be more knowledgeable about the processes.

And here is their list of documents for interview https://uk.usembassy.gov/visas/family-immigration/required-documents/ Many of those are already in your NVC file but they will need to have a look at the original documents of the beneficiary to verify them as legit. No photocopies have to be provided any more. Dropped several years ago and they are already in the digital file from NVC.

No civil documents from the US petitioner have to be provided at the interview. This interview is all about you the UK person and your qualifications. The I-864 from the US is all that is needed and I think that is accepted in the copies uploaded to NVC already. You could throw in copies to take anyway. And if anything has changed like a new employer, you can provide a new version at the interview.

  • 2 months later...

Hi,

I have my interview for a CR-1 at the US Embassy (in London).

Just trying to make sure all my docs are in order - the case was processed through NVC, so all DS-260 and I-864 docs are in CEAC.

NVC scheduled the appointment at the embassy, so of course we are DQed, and I have completed my medical.

There are a few different lists around regarding what documents I need to take to the embassy.

I am taking originals of:

  1. My existing passports
  2. My birth certificate
  3. Our marriage certificate
  4. Police certificates
  5. DS-260 confirmation page (printed)
  6. Interview appointment e-mail (printed)
  7. Courier confirmation page (as far as I can find this is just another e-mail - printed)
  8. Passport sized photographs

I am the sole beneficiary; no previous marriage/divorce, no kids, no military record, etc. etc.

I see also in some areas that there are statements that e.g. I-864 must be provided with financial evidence and that there needs to be proof of my wife's (petitioner) right of abode in the US etc. (she is a US citizen).

In our case, all of this has already been uploaded during NVC including the I-864, her tax returns, copy of her passport, etc.

Question:

Do I need to take any copies of I-864, proof of her meeting the sponsorship requirement, print out of her US passport, etc.?

And also, is any further proof of the relationship since I-130 required? From notes in the UK sub-forum it appears not but interested to check.

Thank you!

I think the general rule of thumb is to bring copies of everything you have submitted so far.

The embassy are only interested in seeing the civil/tax docs you uploaded to NVC so they can verify their authenticity. That being said it’s not uncommon to ask for additional proof/information.

Best advice is come prepared for everything. You probably won’t need it but it’s best to have it in case.

As for bringing a copy of your sponsors passport, it wouldn’t hurt but I doubt they would need to see it.

Thanks, that makes sense.

She is in the US and was in the US when she uploaded the I-864 and tax docs etc. - so all I will be doing is printing the digital documents that she uploaded to NVC, so I'm not sure it really proves anything.

That said, it's only a few pages and as you say better to be prepared.

Cheers!
