Ok, this is my understanding of what I have read so far here and other information online. I'm a K1 visa holder, and will be flying 3 months from now. Please understand my excitement ;) and also I want to prepare everything as early as now..

1. arrive in US (before visa expires)

2. TD shot

3. get marry

4. get marriage certificate for #5

5. apply SSN- married name

6. apply AOS

7. report of marriage/passport amendment

Questions:

1. what would the Civil Surgeon needs from me aside from the Vaccination Supplement and payment? I checked the form I-693 and it says the CS has to certify that im on good health. Do I have to do a medical exam again and do I have to secure a copy of medical report from St.Luke's again so I would be waived from that?

2. How long a I-94 valid?

3. Do I have to apply SSN before I get marry? I attended a CFO seminar and the lady said we should apply SS# AFTER we marry our fiances?which is which

4. when do we have to file AOS?before my 90days expired? or before I-94 expired? or before my K1 visa expires?

Thank you for the replies..

REgarding #1- You do not need a I-63 from the CS, you need the supplement I-163A. You can show the copy of the vaccine supplement on the DOS form and any vaccination records you might have fro your own pjysician to have those placed on the I-163A.

#2 it will be good for 90 days fromt he date you arrive at the POE

#3 You can apply for the SSN before marriage. doing it after marriage saves you from having to go back and doa bane change. You need to wait approx 2 weeks after arrival, so you are in the SAVE system and before the 75th day of your arrival. If you get it before the marriage and want to take your married name on the card, you can change it, but you will keep the same number.

#4 The K-1 expires as soon as you enter the POE technically because it can not be sued again. You must get married before the I-94 (90days) expires, and you can file for adjustment anytime after marriage. Most do it before the expiration of the 90 days.

...once again waiting

1. just bring the vaccine result from St Lukes.

2. valid for 90 days upon arrival to the USA

3. you can apply SSN before or after marraige. i applied after marraige that I would be able use my new family name and to avoid exerting efforts for changing it on the later part

4. you can file it anytime after marrying your fiance for a marraige certificate is required for filing.

Not necessary. It is ok to wait until her passport is expiring before getting her one in her married name. Several people have travelled on "maiden name" passports and a copy of the marriage license/certificate.

A couple of points:

The civil surgeon I took Claudeth to wanted to do another x-ray so I gave him the one she had from the physical.

We applied for Claudeth's SSN card about two weeks after she arrived and she received it a week later. We couldn't change the name on it until we had something offical from the USCIS so were able to make the change when she received her EAD. It took about six weeks to get the new card.
