I hope to hear something good from Wendy and Tammy soon!

Today my husband will be initiated into an American tradition-- waiting for the repairman! He's waiting for the electrician to come. Yay! :ranting: I imagine it will cost a bazillion dollars.

None of my posts have ever been helpful. Be forewarned.

You know they said they would be there at 8am, but we'll see. I blew this GFCI outlet and it totally died. So I went to Lowes and got a new one, replaced it, and it worked for 2 days until I plugged something else into this other outlet on the circuit (coincedentally the same one I had used before) and it blew again. This time the GFCI didn't die, but no matter what, the circuit would not come back (and it's not blowing out at the fuse box level, just the GFCI level). So I opened up that other outlet to take a look and it had split in half! So obviously changed that one.. but now? Still no life. The GFCI will NOT reset. traded it for another one in the house to see if it was the plug and no, it's not. Which means it's something else, something internal, and something expensive. I'm hoping that they can figure it out quickly. It's $64 for the first hour (up to an hour actually, so 30 minutes is also $64) and $55 per hour after that.

Ammar says we can live without that circuit, but I would rather it be fixed. If we move we have to fix it anyway, and as it is, this only leaves me with one outlet in the kitchen-- the microwave outlet.

What a crappy day already!!!!! :(

I posted about a week ago that Rome STILL had not received Hicham's file. It was sent from Casa on June 14th. I just received an answer to my inquiry from last week about whether they had received the file. I even gave them the Diplomatic Pouch # that his file was sent in and their response....

THEY STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED IT!

#######!!!! Isn't being sent by courier donkey or something!!! I would gladly have paid twice the amount of DHL to have it sent overnight. This just makes me SICK considering that the wait time is 6-9 months AFTER the file is logged into their system!!! Hicham's Palestinian passport expires April of 2008. I don't think I need to tell any of you how difficult it would be right now to get that renewed.

And let me share just a little bit more bad news. :(

Some of you may know that my father passed away last October. He found out he had liver cancer and died 2 weeks later. He was on wife #3 who was a total stepmonster. She kept my father's ashes from me and kept my inhertiance from me until the estate closed. Well, I received a certified letter in the mail this weekend from her attorney saying that she is disputing the money my father left me! She did not let me have any of my father's things and she even ended up getting a ton of insurance money...alot more than what was left to me...but she wants it all. #######!!!!!

Losing my father was hard enough, but this is about to do me in. With what is going on with Hicham's case and this, I'm ready for the white jacket that buckles in the back, you know?

Sorry to hear about your troubles Allousa. Hopefully everything will be worked out soon and you will get what you desire.

Allah tries his chosen people through many hardships, but those who persevere through adversity, surrendering themselves before the will of Allah, shall be blessed with a superb reward.

-The Prophet Muhammad (SAW), as reported by Anas bin Malik

A time will come when the sky is torn apart; when the stars scatter, and the ocean drains away; and when the graves are tossed about, and laid open. At that time every man will be told what he has done, and what he has failed to do; and every woman will be told what she has done, and what she has failed to do.

-Qur'an, Al-Infitar, Surah 82:1-5

Dee I hope things clear up soon! it's so consuming to have marital problems. My husband and I had to hash a lot of things out when he came.. because it was such an adjustment for both of us, especially me.

I appreciate that. After all the time that we have waited (3 1/2 years), we shouldn't sweat 6 more months, right? I guess it's just that we are SO close to the end of this nightmare. Hicham and I both keep saying we are going to knock each other down at the airport when he comes home for good...Inshallah!

Allousa -- I'm so sorry about the loss of your father, and the troubles with his wife. Fights over inheritance can tear families apart, and when there are 2nd or 3rd wives involved, it can be so ugly and so unfair. What a horrible situation for you to be placed in. And as if you didn't have enough stress on your plate already.

But regarding the passport -- he needs to act NOW to renew it, as it may take some time. There is some info about procedure here on a cached page that may help, even though the original page seems to be gone.

http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:S5kd5...;cd=1&gl=us

Morocco used to have a diplomatic mission in Gaza which might be able to give further information -- not sure if it's still there -- my info is from 2002. But the number used to be 08-2824264 (not sure of the prefix -- probably 972 or 970.) He could probably call or pay a visit to one of the government offices in Morocco and get the current contact info.

With the political situation, I'm not sure if the PNA office in Gaza is even open, much less be able to issue new documents. He needs to ask his family to make inquiries there and get specific answers. This may take a lot of time and energy.

Is there anyone in the West Bank who he could authorize to handle this for him ? This would probably be the best, considering the situation in Gaza. You can send the documents to the West Bank by DHL -- this is the only reliable way.

This person could make inquiries as to what is specifically required.

He could also check some of these links for possible further info:

http://www.minfo.gov.ps/ara_index.htm

http://www.mofa.gov.ps/arabic/index.php

But most of all, he needs to get cracking NOW in finding out what he needs to do. Do NOT wait until that passport expires.
