Hi everybody,

before I ask you for help I want to say that this forum helped me a lot till now and I am hoping I helped also atleast somebody. There is great information and realy nice people in all forums in visajourney.

Anyways, I am a resident , my mom is visting on a tourist visa, her visa expires in October. I want to extened her visa for 6 more months. I see in the web site uscis that this is possible if my mom have good reason and proof why she wants to stay 6 more months. I have a baby and I need my mom. I know this can be a problem if we tell the uscis the actual reason for mom`s extantion. My question is what is the best reason to say and proof?

On the other side, soon I will be a citizen(if everything goes right) and I want to apply for my mom for a resident card. My question is. If I apply for extention for my mom`s visa will we have problems later (when I am citizen) when I apply for a resident card. And also what if they refuse to eztend her visa, will we have a problem later when I apply for a resident card for her.

Please if you know smth give me your advise, if it is not enough clear the way I explained it I will add more info.

I have to mention that no metter what happens my mom will never stay here illegal, that`s why I need advise.

Thank you everybody

Which country issued the tourist visa for your mother?

Nini - Vancouver BC, Canada (she's the one who does the forum thing)

Bee - Devon PA, USA (he's the one who gave her the shiny ring)

It is my understanding that extensions are hard to come by. She can apply, and she wil be in status while they are adjudicating her extension. If it is denied, they expect a timely departure from the US or else illegal presence will accumulate.

All of this, regardless of the outcome would have no effect on any future petition that you submit in the future.

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.

Providing child care is in breach of her Visitor status.

Being in Hospital and not being able to fly would be a good reason.

No harm in putting in for an extension with the real reason, you hope to be a Citizen and then file for her to adjust her status.

Worst they can do is say no and then 'x' months will have gone by and any return wil be that much shorter.

All above assumes you are not worried about her using her B Visa again.

People who have been refused Visitors Visa's for this reason would disagree with you.

Obiously there can be a grey area, but if for example she was looking after the child sothat the Mother could go back to work that would be a good example of what is not permitted.

There are nough posts on this subject of people wanting to bring family members to child mind, it is classified as work.

In my personal opinion, it is stupid. Probably the most stupid thing I've ever heard of. A grandmother taking care of a baby is considered working, gimme a break

Of course, USCIS and consular officers may have a different opinion on that, and in this case, it is their opinions that matter.

So if grandma changes a diaper or gives her grandson a bath in the sink, then the ICE could take her into custody and put her into removal proceedings??/ you got to be kidding!!!!!!

Plenty of grandparents come here all the time to see and interact with their grandkids.

Grandma can certainly babysit her grandkid so mom can work, go shopping, get her hair done, get out of the house....etc.

I have never seen anyone refused a visa because they wanted to help their kids with their grandchild.

Thank you everyone, my cocerns are mostly if I apply to extend her visa and they refuse for whatever reason(in this case she will leave the country), will she have problems later on when I apply for her for green card, just because I tried to extend her visa, especialy after they denied.

This is my biggest concern

I am trying to understand how big of a problem can be extention of visa for future period.

Thank you

I guess my biggest question is.... if you already are a LPR, why not sponsor your mom as a family member? Can't that be done? I think some VJ members are LPRs as well and have "brought family over" to the US... but maybe I'm wrong.

In any case, good luck. And kudos to your mom for helping out with the baby: I wish that when that happens, my mom can come over and do the same.

Peace, L.

I doubt it

Plenty of grandparents come here all the time to see and interact with their grandkids.

Which is not a problem

Grandma can certainly babysit her grandkid so mom can work,

No, well not as a visitor.

go shopping, get her hair done, get out of the house....etc.

Probably

I have never seen anyone refused a visa because they wanted to help their kids with their grandchild.

I have, several actually.

As long as she does not incur an overstay of more than 180 days, it wll not.

Yes I am a Perm Resident that`s not enough to petition for a member of a family unless you want to be denied.

Unfotunately, that`s true there are many people that got denied for a B2 visa because of the reason baby sitting. USCIA consider this work visa. That`s totaly wrong but that`s what it is in the real live. Grandma can`t stay here for several months and baby sit because she takes US citizens job. Where is the love and the family here, I know, but that`s the law, like it or not. Grandma can visit probably for a month the very most for this reason baby siting, but that`s about it.

Do you know somebody with a green card after visa extension approved or denied?

Thank you
