This is true. When I went in my interview I had to take all the original and you have to mail all the original stuff to your parents.

So I send over my US passport as well? This seems so ridiculous and unnecessary to me.

No not your us passport but your naturalization certificate, tax document, name change certificate if any, if any letter from your work stating you work here.

For the interview

Your Passport?

Well, my mom says all original documents associated with the case. I had my naturalization certificate and US passport scans attached to the case online. Hence, the question. Case is complicated by the fact that she lives in Russia and all the mailing services between the two countries are suspended due to sanctions. She's also a German citizen so we might need to mail stuff over to friends in Germany, then have them bring it to Russia whenever they come visit. It's just weird to me why she's expected to have my documents, what if I need them myself for other reasons (my education, employment, incoming newborn paperwork, etc)? Mail gets lost, gets stuck somewhere, takes forever sometimes despite paying for expedited services.

Did they ask for any of it during the interview?

Yes when I went to the interview they asked for originals. My husband when he filled for me he was a us citizen but didn’t have his passport so obviously I didn’t take that. But the rest of the documents my husband did send it to me. I would not send the passport though. I am not sure if you can get all your documents notorised kind of thing and then send those as a true copy.

I too have my us passport and naturalization certificate but I am only going to send my certificate and not the passport.

You don't need the originals for proof of US Citizenship. So no need to send your US Passport or Naturalization Certificate.

Also, you don't need originals for the AoS. You'll need a copy of the form, W2, and Tax Transcript (or Tax Return).

The only originals that are required are Birth Certificates for the petitioner and Birth Certificate/Marriage Certificate for beneficiary.

Each embassy/consulate has a checklist of documents to bring to the interview, double check everything on their website.

You can also check the embassy/consulate page here at VJ., there's usually helpful information there. However, take it with a grain of salt as it might be outdated.

I think it depends on the embassy staffing and workload. It usually takes anywhere from a month after the case is DQ’d to more than a year depending on the beneficiary home country. Most African countries do not process more visa applications as compared to Asia or the Middle East so the wait time should be average in your case. I’m anticipating 6 months or less. Nothing to worry about. Some Asian and middle eastern countries have a longer wait time to get an interview. I was reading on another thread where this dude said his beneficiary had been waiting for about a year and a half to have an interview scheduled. I believe they from the UAE

Apparently, the wait time from DQ to interview depends on each consulate. I am not sure how long it takes in Cairo. Some places seem faster than others.
