Curse of the "Blackpearl"

I'm a Pirates of the Caribbean fan, so I call my new Blackberry Pearl, "The Blackpearl" Rrrrrrr!!! So now I run around saying, "Curse of the Blackpearl!" Anyway, I took Brother William's suggestion to someone else on a potential new cell phone purchase and we now have Blackberry Pearls. My wife has the red one and I have the black one. The phone is awesome and really does match the many great reviews that I have read. However, the additional charge for internet makes the monthly charge a tad bit on the high side with our family plan. But with internet, email, instant messaging, camera, and the other multi media options, this is a great buy for techie types or anyone looking for something a tad bit more than just having a cell phone. We actually use the extra features so this was a great buy for us.

I considered getting the Blackberry pearl, but i realized I probably wouldn't use the extra features that make the phone worth it. Instead I'm waiting for the mass market version of this phone to be released in October: http://www.openmoko.com/

I have an iPhone and the thing absolutely rocks. It actually lives up to the hype and the first handheld device I've used for which surfing the web is not a total pain in the #######, I can actually read proper web pages on it rather than "mobile" versions, for example VJ works great. The large screen helps of course, which is my main issue with devices like the Blackberry, which are great for lots of text/email, but have too small screens for proper web surfing.

Plus with some playful coaxing and wordplay, I managed to get $300 worth of free phones from AT&T before I activated the iPhone, which will go on Ebay to nicely subsidize my purchase.

Happy customer here. I'll agree with the OP though, the BB Pearl is a lovely device, a girl at work has one and I was playing on it the other day.
