New I-485 fee and process

I was reading that the new fee for the I-485 is over a $1000 now. Up from $325 and the biometric fee of $70. The acrticle on the gov. website says it now a good thing. They claim it is up 66%. That is not 66% by my calculations. Did they combine other forms and fees into one convienient process? I was confused by the description they tried to give. I had researched most of the forms and fees I needed and was out of the country when the announcment to raise fees came out. That is why I am presenting this now. I think it is too much on a person to pay that much just after a wedding. We have an interview date. It is scheduled for Oct. 9th. We have known for a month our date. We such a long wait. Is this typical.

The new AOS fee also covers the fees for AP and EAD.

Where does it say that the new I-485 fee also covers the fee for AP and EAD? I was looking at the USCIS website, and on the special instructions for the I-765 (EAD) is just says that the fee is going up to like $340 or so on July 30th. It doesnt say anything about if you file it with the I-485 that you dont have to pay the fee.....

Adjustment applications and ancillary benefits – The new application fee for an I-485 is a package fee that includes associated EAD and advance parole applications. Thus, if you file an I-485 with the fee listed above, while you will still need to submit applications for an EAD and advance parole, you will not need to pay a separate fee so long as your adjustment application is pending. However, if you filed your I-485 before this fee change, to apply for or renew your EAD or advance parole, you must file a new application with the new fee for those applications.
