Hey y’all! If I upload documents as I come across them (for example the joint monthly bills or the IRS tax returns), is it going to delay my application?

Im just trying to see if it’s worth updating everything online or waiting until the interview. I just uploaded our electricity bill from January but now I’m doubting myself

Under which case are you uploading this? I-751 or N-400?

No, the 751 is paper so it’s for the N400…

We couldn't upload anything for the I-751.  I took all the new & updated evidence dating from I-751 submission to date of combo interview with me .  My wife's case is different from your case since you are filing under the 3 year rule.

Oh I see. No, I am uploading for my N400, stuff that I haven’t uploaded in the original application because I didn’t have it. But I don’t know if that delays anything or not.

in a way, my documents for my N400 are the updated version of the 751

It will not delay anything. I uploaded new evidence about once a month while my N-400 was pending. The IO who interviewed me said it was a good thing as it gave her time to look through everything before the interview. No surprises. And depending on the amount of documents, likely less risk of getting the "decision cannot be made" if they have to take time after the interview to look through it all before giving you a decision. If it's just one or two documents they can probably go through it at the interview with you, but if it's more then they may not have the time to do so. So for me, it was sooo worth it to upload everything I felt I wanted them to have/see. The only thing I couldn't upload was my latest tax return transcript as we had filed our taxes only 3 days before the interview, so I brought the whole ~50 page tax return with me. The IO scanned it into their system and told me they don't like paper (hence she scanned it and didn't copy it), they prefer it electronical. So definitely upload if you can.

That's a very thorough and detailed response. Thank you so much.

I will upload joint utility bills as they come. And we're filing our federal, State, and city taxes tomorrow, so most likely I will have the return uploaded too.  I just want to get to my interview without feeling unprepared or off- guard.

You will be look over prepared.

if it’s not official request about additional evidence you shouldn’t add them.

You can bring it to the interview and show them IF officer asked.

That’s  bad idea to give them to do double work.

Then why does it have the option to upload additional evidence?

Is there something wrong about being over- prepared versus being "under" prepared?

That option for people with difficult situation like criminal record, taxes exemption and etc. And if you got RFE you can use that function too.

Thank you for your insight. But I don't think it's for people with criminal records or tax exemptions, and I highly doubt that folks under these circumstances would be DIYing and filing online. I was just wanting to know from experience if that delays anything in a pretty straight forward case.

Nothing wrong at all.  As I, in my United States Air Force days, always said, "Over-prepared is FULLY PREPARED".

Thank you. It's just that I don't want to be fumbling through papers on my interview day. The only paper I will probably take is the interview letters, the cards (EAD, GC, etc) and my stepson BC together with my husband's child support payments in case they want to see it.

Imagine a situation when an officer opens your case to check your documents and schedule an interview,
and instead of 5 required documents, he finds 5 more, which he must check in the same way.
Considering the human factor, what is the probability that he will close your case and move on to another
one with only 5 documents. Or how long will it take him to schedule your interview if
he has to check all 10 documents?

I'd say the chances are about 1%.  When it comes to evidence of a bona fide marriage, there is no set number of required documents.  I would that Immigration Officers are more professional than you assume.  The ones I have met during interviews are.
