Just another slightly stupid question for which I think I know the answer: we might not have submitted our 2022 prior to my N400 submission, so I’m assuming that until April 15 2023 the last tax year of tax returns could be 2021 right?

No choice.  Lot of W2’s are still pending until late Jan

Not yet. It’s still mid- January😂. We often file our taxes mid- February and I’m applying first week of February. So I guess we’ll just take our 2022 tax return to the interview.

Better to upload the transcript when it's ready on IRS website if you haven't had your interview by then, that way the IO gets a chance to look at your evidence before the interview. You can upload new documents whenever you want to. I uploaded a couple of new documents/evidence every month my N-400 was pending (it was pending for ~10 months).

You don't need any tax information to submit the N400 application, this is only needed for the interview and you will need to take paper copies to the interview regardless of if you uploaded it.

In my wife's case, she filed in early January 2018, and when her interview came up in March, we had filed our 2017 taxes, so she brought a copy of that filing where the IO ignored it.

Good Luck with your filing!

I would second what others have said: your evidence sounds solid. As @Dashinka said, a lot of the required documents are to be taken to the interview, so you would technically not need to worry about them quite yet.

In my own N400 journey, I was aware of that, but I’m also a little OCD, so I kept uploading stuff throughout my wait for the interview (taxes being one of those things). As a result, the interview process was quite quick, and I was sent home with most docs I had brought in as they already had it on file (they had my whole immigration file on their desk). Now, this is just anecdotal evidence, and I believe there’s some variance dependent on IO and field office, but if you follow the guidelines, you’ll be fine.

Best of luck for a quick process and yay for your window opening soon!

Completely agree.  In my wife's case she filed by paper with a pending I751 so we only included the two pieces of required evidence for the n400.  She was called to an N400 interview with no indication of the I751 other than the notice it was moved to a new office, I went with her, and the IO conducted a short (less than 5 minute) interview with the two of us and had the inch thick I751 package in front of her, (and my wife had an accordion folder with all the N400 interview requested material) we added copies of the most recent tax filings since submitting the I751, and I was escorted out and my wife proceeded with the N400 interview alone.  I suspect that the massive I751 submission was part of why the IO did not ask for any N400 interview material, but who really knows for sure.  My wife had her oath ceremony about 3 months later.

This is your definitive study guide for the civics test, R ma'am:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/382775-mrs-t-b-the-citizenship-test/

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Question:

I purchased a gun (yes, I was a PR and it is allowed for PRs to own a gun). I see there is a question on the N400 about “weapons training”. I never received any formal instruction on it, just my hubby teaching me how to use it.
I am assuming I need to mark “yes” on the weapons training question, and then explain at the interview. But I am not sure if this will cause a red flag or not.
I did consult with an attorney and he said to mark as “yes” and then explain. But I would love to gain some insight. What throws me off is the word “training”. Sounds as if they are asking about something official? Maybe I’m wrong though.

My two options are:

1) mark “yes” and explain at the interview.

2) mark “no” but ask at the interview if this counts as “training”

My gut (and attorney) tell me to go with option #1, because it is better to disclose it upfront and let them decide. But I’d love to know others’ opinions

Here is the official memo from USCIS on military training...

section 2339D(c)(1), which provides that “the term 'military-type training' includes training in means or methods that can cause death or serious bodily injury, destroy or damage property, or disrupt services to critical infrastructure, or training on the use, storage, production, or assembly of any explosive, firearm ...Feb 23, 2011

From people I have talked to, and personal experience I don't think that any basic firearm safety from your spouse or even if you take a CCW class, or firearms safety class is going to require you to mark yes in the box. They are looking for actual military serious weeks long training usually involved with some terrorist group. My wife has her CCW and has received training from me, and the classes she took in basic firearm safety. We have applied for the N400 back in November, and we didn't mark yes on that question. Since this has come up before, when we get our interview as long as everything goes well, and we don't have " The IO out to destroy people" I will ask about this. The few interviews we have had thru this process we have had mostly nice IO's, so if we get a good one, I will ask his opinion on it and report back.
