13 miles and they have to take a private jet?  Was the private helicopter in the shop?  It is amazing the hypocrisy with our "betters" in Davos, hearing John Kerry's speech was truly a self-serving love fest.

Also gas cooktops are a pain in the rear to keep clean.

 

So induction it is. We found a model we like that our contractor said was a solid choice, not the very top of the line but has plenty of bells and whistles. I somehow don't think I need it to have Wifi, but it does.. It will be a bit of a learning curve, but glad to hear that you like yours, since I know you're pretty serious about cooking/baking.  We're sticking with the gas dryer though -- it's also 1980s vintage, and I know from experience that the old washer/dryers are a lot easier to maintain. We have a pretty new washer/dryer in Santa Monica and it's forever breaking down.

I liked the 80's.  They were some of my best years.  Finished school.  Got married (the first time).  Had two kids.  Moved to the paradise known as Florida.  Started a business, etc etc.

 

On a related note, just finished one of those ridiculous click bait quizzes pairing celebrities with their 1970's TV show.  I got 50 out of 51 correct.  Missed some chubby black kid and his show.  Maybe I'm a racist?  Guess the take away is that I watched WAY too much TV in the 70's.

I think the biggest plus about non gas stoves is... as my husband puts it, the house can't potentially blow up and you don't have an open flame. I then recount my tales of tiny child me standing on a stool cooking at a gas stove unattended to remind him there were multiple ways I could have injured myself and still turned out ok. I have no issues with electric, but didn't have much issue with gas either. The quality of the appliance though, is the thing that's gone downhill. Did you show him the NFPA report regarding electric stoves?

We're going with an LG for the stove. Excellent reviews on the model -- the only real criticisms were that it was too expensive. Well, it was when the model first came to the market. Now several years on it's a good deal, with the price down about $600.

 

Guess who manufactured our constantly breaking down washer and dryer in the place we're leaving? 😑 I'm on the no Samsung train too.

Regarding stoves, we got an electric cooktop during a years-ago remodel.  Despite warnings about its fragility, it has been fine.

Stay away from LG too. They share they same manufacturing plant and parts with Samsung. 

Regardless of what brand you get, buy the extended warranty. If you can,  get it through Costco. They are the best to deal with issues.
