I'm sure their is a discusion on this topic in the forums before And I'm also not sure that this is the right forum for my question, if not I'd appreciate someone correcting me

My problem is this - I got a green card, I'm after an interview and I'm going to enter the United States soon to approve the green card and then fly back to my country
I am interested in postponing my arrival due to work constraints, and also - my wife did not find a job yet in the states, we need more time
I heard about an option called RE ENTRY and i would like to hear if anyone had done this kind of process

my wife is american and the vise is famely based, IR1

your visa has an expiration date.  You must enter the U.S. before it expires. Your wife must but be outside the U.S. when your arrive in the U.S..

After you arrive in the U.S. you can file I-131 to get a Re-entry permit.  This will let you be outside the USA for  up to 2 years. You will likely have a biometric appointment in the USA so if you leave after I-131 is filed, you will have to return for the biometrics appointment.

Processing times on Re-entry permits are taking  over a year and you might never actually get one.  However the act of filing for it establishes intent to retain LPR status after an absence of more than 180 days.

Is your wife in the US?

It all depends on what your and your wife’s timeframe is for fully repatriating to the US.  If you are talking six months, then sure, you and your wife can come (as @Mike E stated in his correction, your USC wife has to enter the US either before you or at the same time) activate your LPR status, then come back when you are ready in six months.  If you are talking more than a year, then you can apply for a Re-entry permit via the I131, but you have to do biometrics which may be several weeks after applying, so you either need to stay until that happens, or come back for that appointment.

We had a visa expiring in March with the kiddos still in school SO we flew to the US for spring break, activated the visa, then returned overseas until June.  It’s a common problem - relocating back to the US and balancing the move.

I would not suggest being out of the US longer than 6 months after your initial entry.

Your wife HAS to accompany you, you cannot initially enter unless she is either entering with you or she precedes you.

Thanks everyone for the answers. yes! i wasent clear about that - my wife is coming with me to the states.

I read about the form, my problem is this: i'm going 3 weeks from now to the states, for a 2 and a half weeks visit.

it says on the form information that:
"You should file your Form I-131 no fewer than 60 days before you intend to travel abroad"

also - how much time since my arrivel i have to do biometrics test?

When you head back, how long do you intend to remain outside the US?

i need to stay outside of the united states samthing like 8 or 9 months, their is a slight chance i will be back after 4 months - in that case i'm not gonna work on the re-entry form.

Overall, if you are certain you will not be outside the US for more than 12 months after entering and activating your LPR status, you should be fine.  You can still apply for the re-entry permit if you want just in case this trip extends past 12 months, but you will either need to stay for the biometrics, or come back for them, and you would need to make arrangements for someone to get your mail and get the card to you once it arrives in the mail.

Just to be clear, you don't have a green card.  You have an immigrant visa.  Your green card will come in the mail once you have both paid the new immigrant fee and entered the USA.  Your easiest solution is just to not be gone more than a year.

The year you are talking about starts from the moment I enter the US, Now in February right?.

so let's get this clear - it's not that good to spend more than six months in a row outside the United States in this year...

Not good to spend more than six of any 12 months outside the USA.  The "year" is the 12 months following your exit from the USA, any exit.
