They are usually good for one year.  There have been infrequent cases where for some reason USEM asked for one less than 6 months old but it is uncommon.

That's correct - every NBI clearance has an expiration date date and the Embassy takes notice of this. Same goes for the CENOMAR (i.e. must not be more than 1 year old) & tax returns as well.

Hello!

For those who had to undergo a repeat medical examination:

  • How long did it take for the Embassy to issue the visa after you sent it in the documents via courier?
  • Did they ask you for any additional documents on top of the medical exam? We'll also be sending a new NBI clearance, our latest tax returns/W-2, and a new CENOMAR (on top of uploading copies to the CEAC website - we just don't want them to issue yet another 221G due to these documents being expired, although they have not asked for them)

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hello,

Once we receive the sputum test results by August 31, we will have completed our repeat medical exam (2nd time).

It is clear to us that we will also need to submit the following documents (even though the Embassy hasn't asked for them yet) as they will have expired:

  • CENOMAR
  • NBI Clearance
  • Tax Returns (the latest version the Embassy has are those for 2021 and I'm sure they will want to see 2022 tax returns too)

Besides this, is there anything else that you think we should submit?

Also, for those who re-submitted medical exam results before - how long did it take to get the visa issued by the Embassy?

Thank you,

-Carlos

Hi Sir,

Any updates on this part? Were they be able to issue you the visa before the medical expiry? Thank you!

Hi Kitchie,

Indeed - once we received the medical exam results (around Sep. 3, 2023), we re-submitted this + all documents referenced above to the Embassy. Around 3 weeks later, I checked the online portal and it stated that the visa had been "Issued" :)

Good luck with your process!

Hello, i just finished my interview on 12th of September and they gave me a letter saying that my visa is refused under 221G but it can be overcome if i passed all the missing documents and told me that if i ever got all the documents needed i shall send it to them through LBC along with my passport. Is this a good news? And where can i ask for update on whether the embassy had already received my package? Please share your stories and help me too thank you!

Its more of a situation like, you are not approved because they need something. Don't get hung up on the "refused".

Yes it is good news. If they ask for the passport to be sent that is so they can put in the visa. So basically you passed, they just want some documents that you did not have. If you send in the documents and they are satisfied, you should receive your passport with visa back in 2-3 weeks.

LBC has tracking, you can track through their website.

Don't worry about this, 221G's are common. What documentation were they asking for?

Hello! They should have told you why it's refused. You just have to provide the additional evidence and send it in with your passport.

Hello all. My wife completed the interview for her spouse visa on January 23rd. Unfortunately I was thinking we had all of our documents in order, but we accidentally brought in a photocopy of our marriage license, so we got the 221g. They told her she was approved as long as we send in the missing document along with her passport. We sent those in, and judging by the CEAC tracker updating on the 5th of this month (Feb 2025), I'm guessing they might have recieved it at that time.  It still just says "refused" and has for all this time.No real update so far though. We haven't even been given any real confirmation that they recieved the document and passport. Unfortunately my wife also lost the tracking details for the package we sent through LBC to the embassy. Is there any way to check through the embassy to find out if they currently have her passport? Can anyone with a similar situation let me know how long things took to move forward for them?

Hello!

This is similar to what happened to us (see earlier threads). If you sent it in a few days before 2/5/2025, it should have been received by then and you are right that the tracker typically updates anytime there is any movement on your case or someone updates it.

My recommendation would be for you to call the Embassy and asked them to confirm receipt of the documents. I did this a couple of times - the hardest thing was finding the right # to call and getting on the line with someone.

I wish you the best of luck! The cycle time for them to come back around to us once we had sent in missing documents was about 3 weeks - 1 month but this was in 2023, so I'm not sure how quickly things are operating now.
