Hello all,

Can you guys share from your experience as to how much was the time difference between receiving I797 (NOA) and I797C (biometrics)? I received my NOA today and need to travel out of country. If I797C is usually sent out 2-3 months after I797, then I can travel right now and get back for the appointment. If I797C is usually received in 1-2 weeks after I797, then I can make travel arrangements after attending biometrics. Also, people who have received I797C, how far was your biometrics appointment scheduled after Receipt notice (NOA)?

TIA!

Unfortunately nobody can tell you. For some folks it is weeks, others it is months, and others still it is years. 2-3 months for biometrics reuse notice is the "norm" but as with all things USCIS, there is no true "normal".

I’m in a similar situation. USCIS received my package and cashed my check on January 6. I’m now waiting for my NOA in the mail, and have a a trip overseas booked for January 28th. I’m hoping that I get my NOA before then and that I don’t hear anything biometrics related until I return. Luckily I will only be gone for 7 days. If you do leave, make sure that you have someone who can regularly check your mail to be on the lookout for the biometrics appointment letter. If they do send it then you can either be back in time or call uscis from abroad and reschedule your appointment.
