President Joe Biden on Thursday announced he is expanding a program to accept up to 30,000 migrants per month from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela – along with a plan to expel as many migrants from those countries who circumvent US laws – as his administration confronts a surge of migrants at the southern border.

In a speech from the White House, Biden also unveiled plans to visit the US southern border on Sunday, stopping in El Paso, Texas, to meet local officials and address border security issues. It will be his first stop at the border as president.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Biden announces new plan to limit border crossings from four countries

There are a number of changes here, enough that it's actually hard to tell what might happen next.  [...]

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Refugees are handled by UNHCR, as they are outside, the Countries have control over who and how many they take. Not sure how many US has taken recently but normally seems to be around 100,000 or so, manageable.

Asylum is a different ball game and goes back to the 1951 agreement and is supposed to be a process for those in a safe country when something has happened in their home. Well that seems to be the way it has been historically.  The words used to describe Asylum can of course be interpreted in different ways, and have been, certainly subjective and of course difficult to substantiate and very easy to be schooled to say the right things. Using a generous interpretation I wondered if I would qualify. Big advantage with Asylum is that the asylum seeker chooses the country to seek asylum in, they just need to get to it.

Anyway if it was dealt with like a B2 I would think Billions of people would be able to apply taking a middle of the road definition of qualification, so the only limiting factors would be processing and transportation.

Yes, but it should be up to the asylum applicant to provide proof they meet the requirements for asylum. My point is why don't they handle this like the B2, have an IO do a 2 minute interview with the assumption that the asylum claim is false (like the assumption that all B2 applicants plan to stay in the US) unless the asylum applicant has proof otherwise.  Why does this have to be processed through an IJ/immigration court?

Asylum I assume is balance of probabilities. Anyway you still have the issue of how do you process Billions of applications and let us say you have a 75% refusal rate that is still hundreds of millions who would be eligible.

And nothing to stop the refusals using the current route.

I didn't check, but does anyone know how much the proposed fee increase will be for humanitarian parole?  I believe that is an I-131 that used to cost $575.

Guessing a lot of these people will be eligible for a fee waiver.

What is the current processing time?  Think I read about 90 days.

I have received so many calls from people who are claiming to be my cousins and from people who I have not heard from in many years. Now they want to know how I'm doing.
