Green card extension when applying for naturalization

After traveling home for Christmas and realizing my green card needs renewing with 6 months left on it, it raised a question or two.

If I apply for citizenship will my GC get the 24 month extension the same as if I renewed my GC for 10 years?

Should I apply for both? Which one first?

I-751 Application - Nov 26, 2012.
NOA - Nov 27, 2012.
Bio Appointment Dec 31, 2012.
New Appointment Jan 8, 2013.

I-751 Removal of Conditions - Approved May 28 2013

Green Card Production notice - June 13 2013

Green Card Received - June 20, 2013

Citizenship Application - January 17, 2023

You will get a two year extension on GC when you apply for N-400, starting Dec. No need to go for GC again if you plan to be citizen.

*If you have a 10-year GC and you file N400, you'll automatically get a 24 month extension on GC.

*If you have 2-year GC you'll still need to file I-751 to remove conditions before you file N400. Filing I-751 will get you a 24 months extension.

This is the correct answer and is valid for both cases, 10 years gc or 2 year gc.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Planning to file my N-400 this month but I'm curious as to how long after filing I could travel out of the country.

Is the 24 month GC extension automatic on receipt of application?

Is there a ban on travel until a certain step in the process has been reached?

Thanks for the help, my job potentially takes me out of the country this year (Canada) plus we are planning possible Europe travel later in the year.

That's the question, when does that letter get issued, immediately on application or is it delayed?
