I am trying to figure out if I should go to the route of N600 for my minor kids (derivative) which is kinda expensive or just go get em US passport which is much cheaper.

Thoughts or input anyone?

First do the Passport and passport card.

After you get those, use the same evidence you used  for passport and passport card to file N-600

I will suggest And, meaning do both. Though, not absolutely necessary I'll advice on both; the certificate of citizenship can come into play in certain situations.

But apply for passport first. Once you have the passport, save up some money and do N600 later.
