I-864 form question

So I am using a joint sponsor for my husband I-130 application because I am a student and don't know if my means of income will be considered. My question is, because I know I am using a joint sponsor....for my  I-864 form do I fill out part 7 -"use of asset to supplement income"?

It says that its optional but it also implies its only optional if you exceed the income requirement. My joint sponsor income exceeds the requirement and so that part was skipped on his form. Do I still need to fill out it on my form even though I expect they will solely use the joint sponsor for income requirement.

No. Only fill it in if you have assets which you consider adequate to reach the requirement. But you must complete the earlier sections regarding income for the past 3 years and current income .. even if the amount is low or zero and the tax filing questions

Thank you! I did that!

My second question is should I include financial aid I receive. I read back on previous forums and I've seen mixed responses. Some have said to include it and other said not to. I know some people said that financial aid only counts as school income. But it actually includes cost of living and stuff. So I receive a refund from my school for my cost of living expenses that are not strictly educated related

Your annual income is considered to be the figure on your tax return as “ adjusted gross income”

I haven't had personal experience with financial aid and tax returns so I am not sure how it is treated /declared  on a 1040

My reading is that most of the time it is declared but not included in the AGI but some individual circumstances  would cause it to be included . Go in what the AGI is on your tax returns

Assets are typically used to make up the difference (3X for a spouse) between actual and required income, but they are not required if not needed and if they do not make up the difference.

Not sure about you but if you stole all my assets when I was in school you’d owe thousands and thousands.  I’d suggest reporting your income as per your tax returns and leave the assets blank.
