What happens if you tell the border patrol officer you are leaving on one day but you leave later?

I am Canadian and am currently visiting my US spouse in New York.  I entered US by car on December 17.  I told them I will be staying here until December 27.  The thing is, I am having a bit of a medical emergency and I really don't want to drive back to Canada and be on my own.  Is it a big deal if I stay for another day and head back on 28th?

Half of America is weather delayed this week.  Things happen.

A day matters if it’s an overstay.  11 days vs. 10 doesn’t fall in that category.

You’re right! My bad. Then I don’t think it’s an issue because overstays for USC IR are forgiven

I don’t know if the extra  day will be a big deal or not and thus unless I was sick to the point of being incapable of moving, I would strive to do what I said I was going to do.

What does the I-94 say (yes Canadians now get I-94s)? Some are assuming there is a 6 month authorized stay but that isn’t always the case.

I doubt it would be an overstay, coming from Canada.

Only for AOS and the IR stays in the US. For tourist visas, they will most certainly have a problem if they overstay past the allowed date and try to come back

To the OP, leaving a day after won't have an affect, it only would if it would mean an overstay will trigger

When life gives you lemons, cut some onions so you can cry.

Of course. I assume everyone in here knows that. And it’s not OPs case, that’s why I didn’t mention it
