Is the non-USA partner a rarity where you live in the US?

For me it is a definite NO. There are no places you can go without Brazilians there. There are so many of them, that the streets are lined with Brazilain markets and boutiques.

When I went to Brazil, there was basically NOTHING I could bring back that I couldn't get here somewhere.

My husband probably speaks just as much Portuguese as English every day!!!

Restaurants, Hair Salons, Eye Doctors and Car Mechanics are open all over the place to serve the many Brazilian residents.

And...they don't speak English!

I went to a Brazilian meat market down my street and had to point and shake my head to get a piece of "mystery meat".

I voted for my husband (the Brazilian) and put down Not Sure because it depends. Where we live there are very few Brazilians - mostly Puerto Ricans. But, 20 miles away - in Orlando - there are TONS of Brazilians. The language school I work at (where my hubby studies) is FULL of Brazilians, and there are supermarkets, cafes, perfume stores, etc.

We have only a couple Brazilian friends and I like it that way. My husband didn't come here to speak Portuguese or to hang out with Brazilians. However, we have met some really nice Brazilians. So, it is what it is....

We live in the middle of a lot so if you go east there are Brazilians, north or south there are not...

You misunderstood. There are very few Brazilians. There are [instead] mostly Puerto Ricans [where we live].

One of the biggest reasons I love California is the cultural diversity here. I believe there's nearly a million Filipino's in California, with over half living in the LA area. I think for anyone marrying a foreigner, having that kind of familiarity nearby makes their transition to America not so overwhelming. :star:

I think I am a rarity in the neighborhood where we live because it is mostly Mexican Americans or African American people.... and a few Asian people... I seem to be one of the few white people in this neighborhood....

but in LA as a whole, there are a lot of white people.... but I am not sure how many of those are Canadian...

It's diverse all right! :)

There's a Russian community here too, so it makes me not so rare, I guess :)
