Some jobs just do not hire those with an EAD,  they require a GC. One example is pilots. Seems like the specialized work you mention doesn’t hire EAD holders and you will have to wait to become an LPR

Update.

 

Yesterday USCIS Save program responded to Driver Services.

 

"Illegally in US but stay authorised by sec of state."

 

In light of that they gave me a limited term license of 12 months duration renewable when new i-94 obtained or green card approved.
