I was born in the USA but my wife is in Nigeria. My grandmother died and I want to get an emergency visa for her to attend the funeral Saturday coming up. Is it possible to do it in time? How do I go about getting her one?

Your wife can apply for a B Visa assuming she does not have one.

 

Getting one this quickly may be a challenge, she hopefully can document her close relationship with your Grandmother.

I doubt this timeline realistic, even for an emergency visa. Also not sure if the reason would be grounds for an emergency visa to begin with.

If you want to try , here’s a How to Link, but you will notice they indicate the death of a direct grandparent ( of your wife) would qualify , so may nor be granted since it is your grandparent.

Purpose of travel is to attend the funeral of or make arrangements for repatriating the body of an immediate family member (mother, father, brother, sister, child, grandparent, or grandchild) in the United States.

Essential documentation:

1. A letter from the funeral director stating the contact information, the details of the deceased and the date of the funeral.
2. You must also present evidence that the deceased is an immediate relative.

As noted above there is a possibility for an emergency visa to be processed if an immediate relative passes away.  Unfortunately an in-law does not fall under that definition.

I do not see the harm trying, obviously this is a big issue for her and they can only say no.
