not only for immigration but for your records

 

we got as many as Rabat in Morocco would allow us to have /BTW  we also got as many birth certificates for the intending immigrant for the same reasons

SS office

studying in the US

ROC

naturalization

and any further petitions like for additional family members

US passport

Just to be clear, when it comes to Marriage and Birth Certificates (Some others too) the "original" is owned by the government agency where the marriage or birth was "registered".  All the people involved ever get is a "certified copy".  For immigration and most other purposes, we submit photocopies of certified copies.  Getting new certified copies is usually not a problem and much easier than getting or "original certified copies" back.

 

"Originals" of marriage and birth certificates that a person holds are usually unofficial souvenirs.

Yes, as stated above a certified copy is an original. I would recommend getting several certified copies (4-5) so that you have them for future use.
