citizenship interview

My wife just got the notice of her appointment for her citizenship interview scheduled for January 10th.  She had filed her N-400 in January 2022.  When she filed, her I-751 was and is still pending with the extension letter due to expire December 31, 2022. There was no mention of a joint interview.  Is this normal or would that come separately? Also, she applied for citizenship under the 3-year rule but by the time of the interview she will have been in the US for 5 years and the interview is 2 days before our 5th wedding anniversary. Will this have any effect on the nature of the interview and what she will have to bring?  Also, is my passport good enough for proof of my citizenship or do I need to get my birth certificate? I just hope it doesn't snow that day.

It is normal.

It might.

However since I-751 is not approved yet, you must assume it will be a combo interview. Both of you  need to be available.

No, because  per your timeline, I-485 was approved 12-31-2018.  The 5 year rules requires being an LPR for 5 years at the time of interview.

Your passport will probably be enough proof but some ISOs will require your original U.S. birth certificate

Thanks.  I will probably get a copy of my birth certificate just to be safe.  What's another $35 after all that has been spent already.

In our case we did not notice that our n400 interview was going to be a combo i751/n400 interview only a n400 invitation, but it was a combo interview. You should be prepared for the combo interview the green card holder and US spouse should both come to the n400 appointment being update bonified marriage evidence, updated joint income tax transcripts, USA spouse's birth certificate or citizenship certificate. Bring all the original documents used in the n400 application as indicated in the invitation letter.

There is a chance the USCIS field office may not do the combo interview due to issues with your i751 file, or they may approve the i751 without an interview.

Good luck.

Thanks for the good advice. I will be taking my wife to her interview anyway so we may as well prepare for a combo just in case.  "Be prepared" is the phrase that pays.
