Nov. 2021 ROC filer, but tired of waiting for interview date, so I'm thinking of filing N-400 while I-751 is still pending. Do you guys recommend I file online or paper? Any difference/preference? Also is there a field where I need to mention/specify that I'm waiting on ROC interview? Thx

Hi @Karim2018 the online vs paper application was recently discussed here and good answers were provided:

There is no field to say you have I-751 pending on N-400 form.

When filing, you would provide a letter either:

- Uploaded electronically with online N-400 application

- Included in N-400 application packet for paper filing

Also you would include a copy of I-751 receipt, again electronically or included in a packet depending how you file.

There is no guarantee USCIS will honor it and do the combo interview.

Good luck!

I just got my wifes I751 approved about a week ago, and new card in the mail, and we filed November 2021 also, so you should see an approval on that pretty soon I would think, our case was at WAC. Funny thing, I filed the N400 for the wife online ( I recommend online, as it was really easy and straightforward), and I even have a previous post where after I filed the N400 online, it seemed to kick start the I751. 19 days after I filed the N400 online, magically the I751 was approved. Not sure if it was a coincidence or if the N400 filing got USCIS to review and approve the I751 or not, but I would file and see what happens. There is no place to put that you have a pending I751 on the form, but they can see all your cases I'm sure, and will know you have an I751 pending.

My opinion if naturalization is the final goal, there is no reason to wait to get the N400 clock started.  Online is probably best, but there is little to no difference between paper or online filing.  If the I751 gets approved while waiting for the N400, great, but if not, it will either lead to a combo interview or two separate interviews.

Good Luck!

Thank you Loren! In our case, we've done the biometrics and are waiting on an interview date, so I don't think they'll mail us a card, as we'll need to be interviewed first. Our receipt start with MSC. Congrats on your card and thanks again for your help.

If citizenship is your final goal, then go for it right now. Seem like all I-751 start with MSC is just sitting in a black hole.

Thanks to everyone that responded and shred their experiences and feedback! I'm done filling out the N400 form online, but noticed that it didn't ask for 2 passport size photos! Should I include those anyway? Thx
