someone broke into my car last night and stole my green card. i was supposed to travel back home to england this morning. i am crushed that i had to cancel everything. i was planning on traveling to my home country england with my wife for over a month to celebrate the holidays with my family after being away for three years. i already filled out form i 90 online so my new green card is in the works, but i heard that takes at least 6 months. what are my options to get me back to england as soon as possible to visit my family for a month? i also called the USCIS and requested an appointment to get an ADIT stamp but they said it could take up to 30 business days to get a call back to even schedule an appointment. thank you guys

What about going back and then applying for a boarding foil at the US Consulate in England?  You don’t need a GC to exit the US to my knowledge.

Lost GC with immediate international travel plans.  Maybe try going down to the USCIS office to plead your case.

i have looked into the boarding foil. it looks like a positive option however i am afraid because i don’t know how reliable that is or much about it at all. do they typically get granted?

To my knowledge yes, but usually when a GC is lost or stolen abroad, so not really sure in your case.  It does say you need to bring a copy of a police report to show the GC was stolen.  I am not sure how convenient it is for you, but if the USCIS office is not too far away, I would try pleading for an ADIT stamp, if that doesn’t work, then I would probably try the boarding foil route.  Of course that depends on what your travel plans are.

Good Luck!

Sorry about that situation!

Did you obtain a police report?

ADIT (I-551) is the only good option.

Another one is to get I-131A once in the UK from US embassy, but that's risky, slow and costs $$$.

I would take the police report and your travel itinerary.

Too bad you canceled your flights. That cost you leverage  for option 1.

Options:

1. I-551 stamp. These days this is unlikely as USCIS offices moan that they are too busy to take appointments.  You live next door to one. Try a walk-in.

2. reroute return through Canada / Mexico

3. File I-131a  the moment  you arrive at your  holiday destination

4. Sometimes renewals are lightning fast. Make sure someone has access to your mail box and can cope with sending it to you via FedEx or DHL.

it was really important that we cancelled the flights because the greencard was stolen 9 hours before my flight took off in the morning so we would’ve had no time to go in and plead our case really. we will definitely try a walk in! we live with my brother and he doesn’t have plans to leave so he can easily mail us the necessary documents thank god. thanks so much, do you have any ideas about how successful a I-131a might be for our circumstances?

I’ve never heard of being denied.

Usually they take about a week end to end.
