Impact of unemployment insurance (EI) on citizenship?

Assuming your GC is through marriage:

 

You could have been unemployed from day 1 till n400 filing (though weird and might raise a question) has no bearing at the end (Think of stay at home spouse/ mom/ dad - homemaker). The bearing would be on your sponsoring spouse (due to affidavit of financial support).

 

However, every single day or your employment and unemployment, even weekends has to be accounted for in N400.

 

GC through work is a very different story.

I did not put every single day... it s too dramatic!

I don't know if IO will create a huge deal about it but one just should generally take away reasons for them to get pissed off.

 

You could write down that info and bring to the interview for them to correct.

 

If I remember it right, online version doesn't even allow you to proceed forward if you have employment or unemployment gaps unfilled. False timeline is not recommended.

It's not a very different story at all unless there is a suspicion that the GC was not obtained in good faith, e.g. if one quits the GC sponsoring employment soon after the GC approval. The LPR status provides for the same rights whether obtained by marriage or employment avenues.

12/23/2016 USCIS suddenly changes several forms, invalidating my EAD/AP renewal package (not yet sent)
12/27/2016 USCIS suddenly reforms the entire NIW criteria system, replacing a 20 years old one. Uncharted waters. 
01/07/2017 (Saturday!) EAD/AP renewal package with new forms received in Phoenix "reception desk"
01/17/2017 EAD/AP renewal case accepted; text/email with receipt numbers was received
01/30/2017 Law firm finally confirms that USCIS has suspended processing all EB2-NIW cases due to new criteria. 
02/23/2017 USCIS slowly starts adjudicating NIW cases again.
04/21/2017 Extended EAD/AP received in mail. Valid for 2 years. 
05/06/2017 Received a massive RFE on I-140 NIW case.
07/20/2017 RFE response received by USCIS (a very long response with 30 pages of docs)
09/14/2017 I-140 NIW approved!!! 
11/28/2017 RFE for new medical issued (plus another request re Supp J for employment which is clearly issued in error)
12/04/2017 RFE received in mail
12/07/2017 repeated medical exam for I-485
12/08/2017 Attorney receives documents for responding to I-485 RFE
12/21/2017 Response to RFE received by USCIS 
02/09/2018 I-485 approval (text, email) :)

What you said is the different story lol. And stuff like that would come to bite during citizenship interview unlike the one through marriage.

There is no requirement that one needs to stay employed after the GC is approved (apart from special cases like that of medical doctors who got the GC through the NIW, based on working in underserved areas). Technically one can quit working for the sponsoring employer the day they become an LPR, although that would not be advisable because it could raise a suspicion that their intention (to work for the sponsoring employer) had been inconsistent with the one stated in the I-140, i.e. material misrepresentation. So no, stuff like unemployment will not come to bite during the interview. Although, of course, the IO can always ask.

Then it's not really very different from the family-based GC, is it?
