Oh Jenn, they are just adorable! Raising siblings together is great - I have a pair of sisters and a pair of brothers - and they generally remain good friends as they get older as well. Yes, make sure you have them both neutered between 4 to 6 months of age and start them now on their kitten series of vaccinations. It is like babies - they need to go in at scheduled times to have booster shots and certain shots are necessary at certain ages. Call your vet and get them on a schedule:-). Wait and let their personalities suggest names to you. Sometimes it will just hit you what the perfect name is and sometimes you need to wait for it. Remember that the name will continue when they are adult cats so try to keep that in mind too. That been said, I kind of Amber for the girl and Bartholemew or Angus for the boy (hehehe).

USNoiva - what a beautiful boy you have there. What a lovely gift from your husband. I am sure Wanderlei gives you lots of pleasure and fun.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Maine ####### right? That'd explain the size! :D

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys! I'll let you know what we (I) decide. It's a lot harder to make up my mind then I thought it would be.

I was able to take a good look at their rear ends  and I'm pretty sure that the one on the left is the boy and the one on the right is the girl. I had originally thought the opposite, because the girl is bigger and she's less skittish. But I guess my preconceived notions were a bit off.

Yup, the faces back that up. Male cats tend to have longer and broader noses.

This is not a suggestion for names, but be sure to at least neuter the male as soon as you can because I am sure you dont want them to have kittens together!

Definitely, I don't want that! I heard that fixing is usually done around six months, right? They couldn't have babies before then, could they?

Well, you have to take them in for their innoculations ASAP anyway, ask the vet when he would suggest getting them neutered/spayed. Females should be done before their first heat cycle at 6 months approx. Males can be done from around 5 months onwards. Wait any longer and he might start to spray...and you really don't want that!

Clearly you should name them Pork and Beans. Good luck Jenn they're cute.

I can't get too excited though because I'm a dog person, sorry.

I know we should get them started on their shots ASAP. Do you think it can wait a week? I was hoping to bring them next Saturday since is easier than M-F. Sorry if that's a stupid question, I just want to make sure I'm doing everything ok.

I read that ideally the vaccinations should start at 8 weeks, so we're already 2 weeks late since we only got them yesterday.

It should be fine! You're going to get them done; that's the important thing. Plus they are indoor cats (I presume) so the chances of them catching some of the more virulent illnesses are reduced somewhat.

Keep us posted on their progress!

Maybe the place/people you got them from have already started them on their jabs?

You'd normally get some form of paperwork with the animal if that's the case. Judging by Jenn's posts I don't think that she has.

I love orange kitties. Those guys are really cute Jenn but they DO look like they have a lot of mischief in there.

I like Pork and Beans too, that made me laugh, although I have to say my cat naming has tended to sort of evolve into itself. Meaning whatever I PLANNED to name them doesnt usually stick, and instead they end up with whatever we called them and it fit. Right now I have Kitty, Weevie, Shim and Mitten Boy. I used to like to name my pets human names and I had some good ones but now its just a free for all.

(hahah wonder what my baby is gonna end up being named!)

I wanted to share a picture of our new kitties with you guys. They're about 10 weeks old, and so playful and adorable! We are first time cat owners, so I hope all of you pros can give us some guidance when needed. They told us that one was a boy and one was a girl, but they both seem like boys to me. I suppose it'll become more clear soon enough. :D

Suggestions for names are welcome. I've been given free reign by Wadi to choose!

20060913.jpg

I was going to make a new post telling everyone about my one cable job yesterday. The picture of the two kittens just look like this kitten at the home I went too.

When I got there, the owner let me in, she told me a kitten was outside but she is ok.. when I went outside to look at something the kitten went to me right away and wanted to be around me always. I try to go inside it wanted to come in with me.. so it got in.. I went to get the things I needed to fix the problem at this person's house..and while I was doing my job the kitten was right by me, kinda proucing on things and attacking things.. then all of a sudden it jumped on my leg.. so I look at him and he look back with a silly look... and he did that four or five times trying to jump on my leg and hold on.. Later I went inside and try to program the tv and that kitten just laid down and fell asleep at my feet. I guess that kitten really liked me..

So that is my warm fuzzy kitten story for the day :D

Thank you mags, yes he is a Maine #######.

Jenn, when I went to the vet, he told me that they can be neutered/spayed earlier than 6 months. Maybe there is a new technology nowadays?

I also saw a couple of kittens at the shelter (I am a browser) that have already been fixed and they were very small. (like 3 months old).
