Good idea to do some counseling together. Wishing you both the best and much happiness together.
Isn't it a little bit early in a relationship to already have problems and need counseling
No, many clergy give pre-marital counselling to ensure that the couple is ready for marriage.

Yes, and I think it's a great idea. Our Lutheran pastor insists upon at least 4 (1-2 hour long) meetings with him prior to the marriage, not only to make sure you're really in love, ready for marriage, believe in God and the sanctity of marrying in a house of God, but to sort the ceremony exactly how you wish. He was wonderful, and having that experience before our wedding, and needing to answer all his questions together made us realise exactly how ready we were (versus both our prior relationship mistakes).

pre-wedding counselling by a religious leader is very different from the OP's situation.

OP- I wish you luck with your situation.

Considering they are now going to try to get married again, I don't see how it is not apropos...

Pre-marital counseling is a grand idea imo.

I never said it wasn't appropos, I was only saying getting counselling because you didn't show up to your wedding is far different than getting counselled in all the new aspects of your new lives together.

Getting counseling (religion based or otherwise) for marriage in my opinion is always a good idea . Whether it be day one or year 7...if there are issues it is better to deal with them and sort them out instead of sweeping them under the rug or ignoring them all together so it can turn into an even bigger problem down the road.

There really should be no shame/hesitation on getting mediation or outside help when you feel you can not resolve the issue on your own. People tend to get caught up in feelings and emotions and aren't always able to distinguish fact from fiction. Why not seek someone who is trained to help sort out your thoughts and reach a rational decision?

Jodo~ I hope that you are able to get it all resolved with your SO and have a wonderful wedding!

Mr and Mrs Bird - it is disappointing to see you comment negatively on something that the OP said that she was going to do with her fiance. I believe in offering support on VJ. It is up to individuals to decide what is best for themselves.

Oh sure, it will not be soon. The Abouna who was marrying us, said for sure we have to have more counseling, but he knows of the 90 day requirement. So, once we get back home more counseling and then the wedding.

WOW, I think that is so rude!!

I have nothing but respect and sympathy for the OPs decision. She just listened to her heart and I think it is great they decided to work on things and get help in their current situation. Whatever it was that made her not to go to her wedding...she is willing to face the issue and work on it.

IMHO, that is more courageous than many people getting married and did not think about it thouroughly and then get a divorce 3 months later.

I agree though to some other posters that they will probably need some counseling that goes a little deeper than the usual "pre-wedding counseling" that you get offered at various places, churches,...

All the best to you, JODO!!!

I agree, this is not the first time I read a rude and insensitive comment from this person...

I feel sorry for the Egyptian man!!!! OP, thanks for sharing this awful story!

BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know anyone who thinks running out of his/her wedding is a normal behavior. Lack of respect and consideration for others, selfish and immaturity do show when people acting in this way. This supposed to be a joyful event, turned out to be just another day in the USA where promises are broken just for the simplest thing RE: "Because I Can or Can't". So, I understand we suppose to be supportive and such on this VJ, but please, save it! I call it as it is: OP wants it all cater to her feeling and disregard the man she promised to marry. Just to be fair, make it up and move to Egypt!

And Let the flame begins!

#######? right back at you....

I did see that OP plans to have the wedding, "take 2" this friday, today! BUT the whole thing still leaves a bad taste in the mouth for the egyptian man! Oh so, now she's back on board, so now everything is A-OK? Are you thinking and believing this is NORMAL behavior?

Let us know how it goes! Different people do things in different ways and have different coping strategies (or lack of as the case may be!)

While many people may not have handled things in the way the OP did, she obviously felt at that point in time that it was the only thing she could do under the circumstances. It's not up to us to judge how othe people handle situations - I am sure we would all disagree on a variety of issues - us being different is what keeps the world interesting :)
