How long does it take after medical is received to get visa?

Hi,

I'm new to this forum so I apologize if this is in the wrong spot...

I had my interview at the Montreal consulate on November 14th, 2022 and was told I was approved pending medical receipt (there was a major screw up at the clinic and it caused a delay).  They received my medical on Tuesday November 15th (confirmed via email).  My status still says "refused" today, November 30th.  The consular officer told me they ship passports with visas on Fridays and they reviewed my file last week (November 22) but no change and no passport return (it was Thanksgiving so maybe that delayed things?).  Can anyone tell me their outcome with a similar situation?  I was not expecting to be without my passport for this long and it's a bit unnerving as I have to regularly travel to the US for meetings with clients.  How long did you have to wait if you were in a similar situation?

Thank you all.  This forum has helped so much! :)

There's no guaranteed timeframe, unfortunately.  It could take days or weeks more.  If you need your passport asap, you may contact the consulate to ask for your it back without the visa.  Or you may opt to apply for a temporary passport.  Details from @ToddD here --

Hi,

I am facing the similar situation because of the mess up done by the panel physician. I had my interview at Frankfurt on 22 Nov 2022 and the doctor sent the medical report on 24 Nov 22. I am still waiting with the "Refused" status. Please let me know about your progress. It will be of great help. Best of luck.

Khandker

Hi!  So sorry to hear it!  It was an unbelievable delay for me at the Montreal consulate!  I just received my tracking # for my passport yesterday and should receive it tomorrow.  My interview was November 14th and my medical was received on the 15th.  My suggestion is to get in contact with your petitioners congressperson if it goes over 1 week.  I waited until week 3 to do that.  One business day after I submitted my request to the congressperson, my status changed to "issued".  It then took another week to get my tracking information.  I sincerely hope you don't have a similar delay.  This has been BRUTAL! :( Best of luck!!

I am so happy to hear that you got your tracking information. I got some hope now. :D By the way, you said to get in touch with the petitioners congressperson. Did you mean the attorney who filed the case?

No, if you send a request to the state (where your spouse lives) congressperson they can put in a request for you to see what the status is on your file.  This is highly effective as it gets your file at least looked at. It worked for me!  If you go to the state website you will find this info.  It is something they do often and it can expedite the process for you. :)

Wow! That's an amazing information. Thank you again! I wish you a great journey at USA.
