i-864 Tax Requirements

Hi, 

 

I am currently trying to process my AOS and have a question about the supporting tax information.  I had to file my taxes on paper this year as I am married to a non resident alien and all of the online software does not allow you to type this into their social security information. 

 

I filed my tax return in May but according to the IRS they have still not received them.  I have copies of the tax return I submitted but not the current tax transcripts.  I also have no W-2 or 1099 documents as I live and work outside of the US.  What is the best way to proceed here?

 

I saw online that I can provide an signed affidavit as to why the transcript is not here, but does this need to include any specific information? are there any other options?

Your tax return and a letter explaining that you have no W2/1099 for the year 2021 as your income is foreign-based. You’ll need a joint sponsor from the US if you’re still working outside of the US.

You can "read online" whatever that means, or you can study the "instructions" paying attention to the little words like "or" that tell you a complete copy of your federal tax return are acceptable...OR....the Tax Return Transcript.  "OR" actually does mean "or".  Carry on with confidence that you are following official instructions.  No need to explain.
