Entering and Leaving the UK

I visit my SO about every 6 months. Sometimes I get through customs without a problem, other times it's like I'm on trial. They stamped my passport a couple times with some stamps that apparently mean I have a lot of ties to the UK and might not leave. I have 2 sons at home and a job but that doesn't seem to appease them sometimes. Last trip we went on Holiday to Spain while I was there, when we got back to the UK I thought I was going to have to stay at the airport. The lady said well it's Sunday so I'll be nice lol. Anyone else had that type of problem?

Obniously they think you want to immigrate. They can turn you back at any time, it is not a given you will get in. Next time you go take proof of ties to your country (USA?), like a lease, a job letter, etc.
