Hi y'all!

My wife and I filed back in 2020 and had an interview scheduled in Montreal for September 2021. We were not able to make it on that date and thus had to wait for it to pass before being able to select a new date. Once I got the email to schedule a new date using the calendar, there were no dates available. This happened for months and since then we've had a change of plans and don't intend on moving to the US right away.

I understand that once you go through the interview and get your visa, you have 6-12 months to move down to the states. Our current plans are to move in mid-2024.

Will I be able to keep this case active or will I need to file everything over again including paying all fees?

Thanks in advance!

Ouch.  Has the Consulate or NVC communicated with your or you with them since the missed interview date?

You do  not have 6 to 12 months.  It's six month from the date the medical was completed.

What can and/or should be done depends on the answer to my first question.

Just to add, I've been able to now go in and schedule an interview with select dates available in December and January. However, I would like to know how long I can delay this while keeping the case active.

In that case, you should communicate with the Immigrant visa unit directly and inform them of your intentions.  Their direct response is what you're looking for, but with contact at least once a year you should be able to keep it open for the time period you wish.  Without contact, they may send the case back to USCIS.
