@JeanneAdil gave you the answer for that …and the question itself on the test is not plural…but the answer gives you a clue that it varies

Thank you.  Yes I will need to figure out which one is ours.

my guess is he needs to study more 6 out of 10 out of 100

i think the test is too easy

when i studied civics in  school we need a grade of 75 or more

and we were asked 100 questions  / had to know difference between state and federal

tell him we have it easy studying only a 246 years of US constitution and laws

in Japanese he would have to know thousands of years  /this is why our Japanese exchange student didn't want to go home

so, suck it up, and study/ help him but make sure u the USC know the answers and that is not to say u don't but many americans couldn't pass this test

.  He asked him to read something and it said U.S.  My husband said United States and the guy was like you know it doesn't say that.  It says U.S.

Based on what you’ve written then this is abuse of power by the ISO.

He was also asked why do people immigrate to the US?

that question is literally not one of permitted questions. The word immigrate is not the list of questions.

My husband said for freedoms like Religion.  That was wrong.  If someone could tell me what that answer is supposed to be that would be great because I don't see it anywhere.

The question  that comes closest to the  question you’ve shared with us:

58. What is one reason colonists came to America? Question 58 Audio (MP3, 391.47 KB)

  • freedom
  • political liberty
  • religious freedom
  • economic opportunity
  • practice their religion
  • escape persecution
If it went down as your husband says, this is abuse of power.

Feeling so defeated guys.  So frustrated. So torn.

This is why I  plan to have an attorney on the phone or in the room  with my wife. I suggest you do the same for your husband.

It may seem too easy to you, but for someone who wasn't born here and didn't go to school here, these 100 questions can be challenging to memorize, especially if English is not their first language (although that doesn't apply to OP's husband). This test wasn't designed to be anything like your civics test in school. Saying it is too easy diminishes the hard work that many immigrants put into studying for their test.

6 questions is too easy

my opinion but i am allowed to have one

Supporting my husband is one thing. Helping him practice is different from you asking if YOU should ask for a retake of his application or if YOU should have seen his test updates.
Regardless, seems like he didn’t get the best officer. He’ll be called for a retake in approx 2 months

Sorry I was using the wrong pronouns.  I asked because when he came out he said the officer told him to make another appointment.  I was like they will make it right?  He wasn't sure.

If he literally said "religious freedom" that should have been correct. In your initial post you said that he answered "freedoms like religion" which is not one of the approved answers.

No he didn't.  He said it exactly how I wrote it.  I will let him know to answer how it is stated in the practice.

He was getting 95+ on it.  I am thinking it is what Marieke said above.  He wasn't answering them how they appear in the practice test.  When I helped a friend years ago on this test I definitely was terrible at it.  I am much better now.

You think an officer will not shuffle the random 10 questions or actually ask a Californian to name the 52?

No, I am thinking my husband mispronounced the name of the guy. Like badly.  We took a lot of time trying to practice the name and I think because of that he remembered that name and slaughtered it.

Yeah he took the practice test multiple times and always got 95+%  I also practices with him and at most he would only get a couple wrong.

I looked at 58.  He said Religious Freedom which is an answer.  Do you think he wanted more than one answer?

Thank you all for helping. Just want to work with him so he is ready next time.

I don’t know what exactly your husband answered “ ..freedoms like religious freedom “ as in your original post or Religious freedom….so maybe Officer was a bit too demanding and feared a Bloody British Invasion ….( saying this in jest and good spirit)

Either way,  just have him study directly from the link AND you will see for those with multiple choice answers he needs memorize only ONE. I always recommend he picks the first

I agree.  When he told me what he said about the US vs United States I was a little concerned.  He didn't mark him wrong on anything about it, but just to call him out on it I felt was rude.

I am thinking it was question 58 and he answered it with the religious freedom intent, but said freedoms like religion.  We are going to practice exact terminology from the practice test.

The lawyer is a good idea since I can't be in there.

you said u had 2

u have 2 state senators that represent the whole state

but u have  4 reps that each have a district so he needed to know that person

BTW its a common error

and there is always an election and be careful the name doesn't change

Reason the colonists came in the beginning days is not the same as why people come now.  fiancee and spouse visas are to be with family /  i think that's what the officer wanted

But the U.S. ????? that's United States  so ??????

Yes, you're allowed to have an opinion, and it's okay to be wrong.

🤣 no need to worry about an invasion from him.  He already wants to go back, but for now he is stuck here for sure.

Sorry his exact answer was freedoms like religion.  We are just going to make sure he says them exactly how they are written in the practice test.

that's why they also take an English test part

BUT the following applies also so learning for the civics in English is not an issue

And i do know  how hard people study for this . Adil put everything into this

You will be permitted to take the civics test in your native language. If you take the test in your native language, you must bring an interpreter with you to your interview. Your interpreter must be fluent in both English and your native language.

You think an officer will not shuffle the random 10 questions or actually ask a Californian to name the 52?

Ok let me try again:

”If one of the randomly selected questions was to name the entire set of members of the federal House of Representatives from the applicant’s state of residence, then 1 in 10 applicants residing in California would fail the civics test.”

The distinction between 1 in 10 and 10 in 10 is lost in me when we consider the population of California relative to other states and thus its likely share of immigrants.  About a million people naturalize each year. Californian is over one in ten of the population. So about 10,000 California residents would be illegally denied naturalization.  I think some news reporter would discover this.

I think we’d see 1 in 10 from every state but the ones with a single house fail. I’ve 9 in my state. My wife won’t be memorizing the other 8.

If the  question was asked as OP reports, the administration of the test  was illegal.

People telling OP to tell her husband to “suck it up” are missing basic facts as reported by OP and/or failing the civics test.

This said, passing that practice test  95 percent of the time isn’t enough.  One should be 10/10 100 percent of the time entering into the interview.  Which I was when I waited 3 hours to attend my naturalization interview and downloaded the aforementioned app out of sheer boredom. It’s that easy. Rote memory is all it takes.

But if ISOs are inventing questions and this meets community approval  then I guess we should advise  immigrants to get 4 year degrees in political science and history.
