I know I'm brand new to this forum, but I just wanted to pop in and tell everyone that our AOS interview was this morning, and my husband was approved!! I got home to find an email update from USCIS saying that the greencard production has been ordered.

I'm so relieved. Thanks to everyone's input the last few days; you've all been a big help. <3

Very good news - congratulations! Take it the interview was all very straightforward, then...? Oh, and what office was it at? Might be reassuring to others going through the same local office to hear about a successful interview experience there!

Congrats again. :)

2005 - We met

2006 - Filed I-129F

2007 - K-1 issued, moved to US, completed AOS (a busy year, immigration-wise)

2009 - Conditions lifted

2010 - Will be naturalising. Buh-bye, USCIS! smile.png

Tell us how your interview went and at which local office it was. Did they ask any specific questions?

It helps for those who will be at the same local office.

It was at the Dallas office; 3010 N. Stemmons Fwy.

Our letter from USCIS told us to be there at 8:30. We arrived a few minutes early and they waved us through the metal detectors/security checkpoint, and we got to the lobby to find quite a few people there before us. I was surprised then, because we sat down and had only been sitting for a minute or two when they called my husband's name--we were a little worried. We had expected to wait at least an hour, so the fact we were called as soon as we sat down made us think maybe there was something wrong with our application or paperwork. Luckily, there wasn't.

I suppose the interview was easy enough. We were there for probably about 20 minutes to half an hour. She started off by making us raise our right hands and swear an oath, and then lobbed a few quick questions at us, such as asking Brian what our address was and whether it was an apartment or house. Then she asked us who lived there with us, and how long we'd been living there.

After that, she asked to see evidence of our married life together. We handed over our photo album and she flipped through them, we gave her copies of emails for her to keep (and she assured us she read them--I had a momentary desire to ask for them back as some of them are pretty sappy, haha), as well as giving her some old Christmas cards and letters addressed to the two of us, and copies of photos we had. We also had to show her proof of financial assets together. We have bank accounts together, so we gave her copies of those, as well as a cell phone plan together. Unfortunately, that's about it...you can't get anything done without a SS#, so that's all we had. She then asked to see my 2006 tax return and made a copy of it for her records.

After she was done looking through our evidence, she went back to asking us questions, such as how we met (which I'm learning is the one question that will ALWAYS get asked at these interview) and when we decided to get married. I was a little nervous then because she started questioning how speedy our courtship and subsequent marriage was, but we were just honest with her--we told her when you know, you know. We also told her we hadn't rushed into it stupidly or blindly, that we had seriously discussed how life-changing it would be and that we both had the blessings of our families. She then started flipping through our paperwork and again she started asking me questions, such as how I could be working two jobs and going to grad school. I'm pretty sure she suspected that Brian had been working or that we had fudged our financial records. But I explained to her that I had had two jobs and been in grad school before I had even met Brian, and she seemed satisfied with that.

She then told us she didn't see a reason not to approve our application. Apparently, the passport no longer gets stamped anymore, she told us. Instead, she entered on her computer that we were approved, and that our greencard should be arriving in 1-2 weeks (although in the email update from USCIS it said it might be up to a month). Then she wished us luck, and that was that.

All in all, it wasn't that bad. True, she did question us on certain points she might have thought were suspicious, but we have nothing to hide and she seemed to understand that. She asked the questions almost with an apologetic air, because she had to and not because she actually thought we were sketchy. But she was very sweet and explained everything to us thoroughly. Sorry to type so much, but hopefully the details of this help someone else!

I certainly will. I need to get my paperwork together, though. Honestly, at this point, dates are a little foggy. But I'll get on it ASAP.
