Every four years, various "experts" whine about the Electoral College, that seemingly bizarre feature of the Constitution whereby a handful of "electors" from each state get to choose the next president.  This year proved why the Electoral College, which so many complain about but very few understand, was an incredible invention of our nation's founders.

On election night, Chris Hayes, the insufferable MSNBC talking head, was one of the people spewing out the hackneyed complaint, saying "We have this very funky and terrible system called the Electoral College which decides elections in a way that is totally different than every other election in the United States, and the way that anything is decided anywhere else in the world.  We should scrap it."

About a week before the final day of the election, The Wall Street Journal published an editorial titled, "A Harris Victory Means the Fourth Term of Obama."  Although Kamala Harris failed her bid for the U.S. presidency spectacularly on Tuesday, the biggest losers of the 2024 election were the Obamas.

No one has had more influence on the Democrat Party in the last decade than the Obamas.  The Democrat Party used to be a place working-class Americans called home.  It was sympathetic to kitchen-table issues such as how soaring crime and food and gas prices affected ordinary Americans' quality of life.

Many in government are worried about Trump's return.  At DOJ, they're terrified.

 

A collective sense of dread has taken hold at the Department of Justice, which drew Donald Trump's rage like no other part of the federal government during his campaign.

Some career attorneys at DOJ are already considering heading for the exits rather than sticking around to find out whether threats from Trump and his allies are real or campaign bluster.  Those threats range from mass firings of "deep state" lawyers to expelling special counsel Jack Smith from the country.

The Washington Times learned through several anonymous bureau sources that senior agency executives were "stunned" and "shell-shocked" by Mr. Trump's victory over Vice President Kamala Harris.

"We're still sorting out the results of Alaska's elections.  It looks like ranked-choice voting (RCV) is narrowly going down.  It looks like Nick Begich III is going to replace Mary Peltola in Alaska's at-large House of Representatives chair.  But nothing is finally decided yet, some of the outlying communities are still outstanding – so we're crossing our fingers."
