Hello, everyone! I am struggling with i864 form.

Just got an RFE saying i submitted the form wrong. No explanation what exactly should i correct, just standart text :"provide complete and accurate form. Provide sponsor's SSN(What is provided), calculate household size properly(checked 3 times and everythingis calculated)" i checked everything again and i found out. That my printer cropped form's pages at the bottom, where the barcode and edition dates are located. Can it be the reason why they ask to resend the petition again?

or Can it be the fact, that i mixed typing and handwriting in my form, because i wasn't able to type everything on my computer. Also do i have to reprint the form completely again if i made a mistake on one page or can i just print one page. Thanks to everyone who will help.

@sergebird it doesn't hurt to ensure all the bar codes are printed correctly and the forms are completed by either typing or writing and not the mix of the two.

Maybe you can list the answer to household size question here and who you counted?

Hi! Thank you for your answer! I printed all pages with bar code now. I am not really following you about why should i ensure the petition must be only typed or printed,  because i am unable to fill some of the blanks on my computer,  and i could not find any restrictions regarding this. About household size, i am the principal immigrant l. My wife is filling the petition, we don't have any children or other dependents. So we counted our household as 2. Thanks again for your response

I hand wrote in answers that the form wouldn't let me type. There was no problem.

Because it's very likely computer systems are automatically checking the applications initially. Those systems may struggle when the form is both handwritten and typed.

If you cannot type it all, just complete the entire form by hand.

This is just a suggestion, I don't know that for a fact.

Thanks a lot! Would you advise if you did your handwriting only in capital letters or capital + lowercase?

I tend to mix them. My handwriting is terrible, so I did my best to make it clear and was happy with that. You're stressing over an unimportant detail.

Yeah, you are right. After receiving RFE I became extra cautious, due to not understanding where did i make a mistake. Thank you for sharing your experience!

Forms initially get read by AI/OCR.

It doesn’t matter if answers are computer-printed or handwritten. It doesn’t matter if you use all uppercase. What matters is if it’s completely legible - no confusion between c e, a o, uppercase lowercase L i, 5 6, etc. No cursive handwriting unless it’s a signature.

if it’s computer-printed, it should be a very clear print. No smudgy prints. No tiny fonts that make it difficult to distinguish an e from c o a, I from i, etc.

Don’t write anything outside the boxes.

Make sure the footers (showing form number, revision date nd page numbers) are visible. Make sure all the pages of a form have the same revision date on them.

Don’t intentionally delete a revision date on the footer for the purpose of inserting it into a form with a different revision date.

if you have a lawyer or paid preparer doing the paperwork for you, make sure they fill out the forms clearly. A lot of them just stamp names/addresses/phone numbers etc. a lot of times, the imprints aren’t complete/clear.

Also, quite frequently, these offices have prefilled the forms with the names of ALL of their lawyers/preparers. Then, they just circle the name of the actual lawyer/preparer who did the work. Don’t circle names. Cross out (strike through) the names of those who shouldn’t be on the form.

————

Write your answers completely. If filling out addresses, put in the address. Don’t just type/write “same as on  page X  item so and so”. Don’t make the adjudicating officers have to go back and forth pages just to see your answers.

———-

Read the instructions (it’s usually a separate document) for the form you’re filling out.
