My case changed to "Ready" status yesterday. I submitted the DS 160 and created an account on the embassy portal.

The portal asked me to pay a "visa application processing fee" of $265. After paying that using a debit card, the portal let me pick a date for an interview. The earliest available date was May 4 so I booked it.

Should I have waited for the welcome letter from NVC or instructions from the embassy before scheduling the interview date? I am feeling nervous as heck that I'm going to mess something up. 🥶

I did that too. Still waiting for the consulate instructions 🙄

But I think we will be fine, there's a looooong time before the dates that we got hahah

Heya, does anyone know how long it takes for the NVC to create the case file and provide the case number?

We received the below email, so it looks like the wait is over and they now are working on it. Based on what other people have said I’m not sure we will hear anything until the embassy receive it.

For me, it took 74 days from the NOA2 date.

I did weekly inquiries until I get my case number, and they responded all of them kinda quickly (maximum took 1 week). If you don't ask, they might not say anything.

Thank you!!

We’ve been emailing too.

Our NOA2 was 9th December.

Our last email said they had received it and it was waiting. The generic one.

Then we got this one saying it’s being worked on. I assumed this must mean we will get out case number in a couple days.

Hi All,

Has anyone else just received the NVC case number without the Invoice ID Number from NVC through an email with a message that states "You will be notified once this case is forwarded to the assigned US Embassy"? When you log into the CEAC Visa Status it just says its "AT NVC". They tell you to log in to the website ceac.state.gov/iv but you will need an Invoice ID number to do so. Was wondering if others are on the same boat and what this means and what the next step is to get that Invoice ID Number.

Thanks

yea got that exact email 4 days ago, i think now they will forward it to the embassy/consulate and once they receive it we will get the CEAC number

not sure when we get the invoice number, maybe in the welcome letter? idk

if you go to: https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx it still says "AT NVC" idk how long it's gonna take them to actually forward it to the embassy

Yea I'm not sure either. Its frustrating because they dont provide you with any instructions on what is next. Its like you have to constantly drag information out of them. Do you know if we are going to receive a welcome letter? From previous posts that I have asked most have just said they received the email with the NVC case number.

The petitioner receives an email from NVC when case is being sent to embassy (In transit). There's no physical welcome letter from NVC

I was able to Fill out the DS-160 and also book the interview appointments with just the Case number.

Our case is for Brazil though, so maybe its different for other countries.

Remember, K1 visa is an Immigrant Visa, not a non-immigrant visa.

When you filled out the DS-160 Form, what did you put under the K1 Visa "Application Receipt / Petition Number"? Are they looking for the USCIS WAC# Number or the NVC Case Number?

K1 is a non-immigrant visa.  But prior to visa interview, K1 case tracking on CEAC is under immigrant visa category.  Typically, it will switch to non-immigrant on CEAC some time after the interview.

I would suggest submitting another inquiry to NVC requesting your invoice number.  I received both together but in an unclear way and when I asked for clarification, they responded within a few days.

The invoice number allows you to log into the website ceac.state.gov/iv which gives you next steps.  Mine only says form DS-160, which we filled out, but we were unable to schedule our interview until our case is transferred to the embassy.  I'm not sure if you will need the invoice number for anything else.  My case is still at NVC and we're hoping it will be sent out on the 14th/15th this week.
