This just confirms that a normal member cannot tell what actions we take by looking at a profile.

very well but it we knew something perhaps all this guessing about secret modding would stop???? Not to mention it would send a message to the unruly posters that it is not acceptable? Geez, WHAT IS UP WITH THE SECRECY?

Devilette ~ Why the urge to know exactly what we do? I wasn't aware that we had returned to the British middle ages where public hangings, putting people in the stocks and public duckings were par the course.

I gather then that you would all prefer a method of public humiliation for members here who mis-behave?

wow. So now you make the leap from me asking about the secrecy to comparing it to hangings? Are you serious?????

It is our right to ask about it, and your right to refuse to talk about it. Whatevs. Then don't tell us to PM mods about violations/decisions when several people have & it's been ignored. It's obviously not something you guys care to share with us, so we can hyopothesize away!

I should add that we locked down the jail cell so that only mods could post. It wasn't about public humiliation - but I suppose that's open to your own interpretation.

I guess I thought of it more as accountability than humiliation. It seems better to me than people thinking that certain members are getting away with murder (when that may actually be quite untrue).

I know it's an amazing concept, but the moderators really DON'T have to explain themselves to you all the damn time. Whether they punish someone or not is not your damn business. It isn't mine, either. I live with Mags and I don't know who's been banned, who hasn't, etc etc. Why not? Because it isn't MY DAMN BUSINESS.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

Devilette ~ I was using hanging and the stocks as an example of how people of that time period demanded that any crime was punished publically. On VJ some members are requiring that when a mod "disciplines" a member they want it done publically aswell; that's all.

I'm sure the moderators get tired of answering all these questions. It probably seems (sometimes) like an attack on their judgment.

I'm not sure I agree that it's our 'right' to know everything they do. For some reason, it just doesn't bug me to know all the 'inner workings'. But then I kind of operate that way in my daily life. I work with a woman who MUST know EVERYTHING that happens in our office. Kind of bugs me because frankly if I tried to digest that much information each day my brain would be fried.

This is my only SUGGESTION - and it is just that - a suggestion. And it's the same one I have had from day one. Just take care of the troublemakers. Get rid of them. Do 'three strikes you are out' or whatever it takes - but eliminate them.

Still a jump from me asking about secrecy. I made no reference to public humiliation myself, yet you directed the comment at me.

This whole thread was started cuz no one saw any action being taken on the attacking party. A simple statement, saying it's been taken care of would have helped - oh, maybe 6 pages ago? When this many pages go on about it, surely admin should take a look at it & make a statement.

When no visible action is taken, other posters see no punishment for attacking others or violating the TOS....

And I tried to take it to PM with admin, but my PMs went unanswered. And I'm not the only one. Why can't admin/mods just answer a PM from a VJer, if it related to the site/TOS violations?

Spot on, Becca, spot on.

I will also bring the Three Strikes thing up with admin/mods and see if it can be incorporated somewhere.

You haven't PMed me for a long time. I ALWAYS answer every PM I am sent, even if it is just a common courtesy.

I think popularity should come into play...if they are well liked by a number of people here, but they happen to step out of line from time to time, a permanent ban (3 strikes) would be detrimental to the camaraderie here on VJ.

I don't think anyone who is 'well liked' is gonna 'step out of line' very often.

Any rule that is put into place has to apply to all.

I'm thinking that instead of it being strictly a 3 strikes rule, a final deciding factor would be whether they get along well with others or if they tend to piss off a lot of members.

It is our DAMN BUSINESS.... H_A made it our Business when she attacked us for no good reason..... all the mods have to do when someone reports things like this is send a PM to the person who was attacked and reported the attack telling them the outcome..... last time I checked being a victim of an attack does give you the right to know what has been done to the attacker....

You are not the only one in admin I can PM.

And you never did say why you called me out on that hanging thing yet I never mentioned anything of the sort. Hmmmm, selective answering...

Just a thought here...maybe something like jail cell that Tracy refers to would serve as a warning to others that this same thing can happen to you if you constantly attack or deliberately piss people off. That is, if we had something like this here.

Just my penny's worth.
