The 'inconsistent' moderating - if you wanna call it that - might be a result of the parameters set for the mods to work in and not the mods themselves. No?

I think they've got a pretty tough bone on their plate. They have certain powers but no clear-cut rules to follow when using them.

Don't say 'people' when you mean me. It's unbecomingly passive and isn't at ALL your color, darling.

And no, I wasn't around. Was sort of busy getting married. But, I can see that from your post here, h_a stripped her threads (i.e., a screw loose), called some names, and received a temporary ban, and most of the discussion following that has revolved around the fact that there wasn't a public announcement of the punishment.

I think a public shaming policy would be a bad idea and lead to more stress. That's my $0.02, and I don't think discussion of forum policy is something you're only permitted to do once you report someone.

We try our best. The site is very diverse and no one set of rules fit all situations so it is a constant struggle. The mods and I just chatted online and we have some ideas to get things even better yet. Time will tell and we will continue to try out best and hopefully that is enough.

guys lets cut the banter and back and forth. I know that there is some poking going on in here and I hope this stays on topic from this point forth. Ironic or not if it gets way off topic again I will lock it and someone can restart it and keep it on topic. Thanks! :)

It's not all about you, sorry!

Okay, okay. I post, other people agree with me, you quote me. But never mind that. People don't have to take part in the original snipefest to have an opinion on the resulting modding.

Not much more to say about the topic. Having public shaming will ruin the board pretty fast.

I agree with the point Marilyn was trying to say, you don't stoop to ppl's level in real life, well at least I don't think anyone should and I don't. If someone is being a complete moron in real life, I don't act like a complete moron to get back at them. I tell them they are wrong and don't agree with them, or stand up for myself, etc and try not to talk to them anymore or something. I don't start calling them names and acting like the behavior I hate. I believe that is Marilyn's point, which is very valid.

At the place I work, there is a woman who is consistently rude. She knows she has a communication problem and she tries to control it, but she's frequently unsuccessful. If she is under pressure, she will bark at the rest of us. If she has given us work to do and we have a question about it, she might point at the paper and say 'it's right there - can't you understand'. She doesn't hesitate to behave this way in front of the entire staff and in front of clients. It's belittling and demoralizing and makes for a bad atmosphere at the office. I let it slide sometimes - if it occurs to often, I tell her not to talk to me like that. And I DO use the same tone of voice she has been using with me. Unfortunately, that is what it takes to make her see she's 'at it again'.

People who stir trouble usually know they are doing it - if they live with normal humans, that is. Normal humans who have told them before that their behavior is hurtful and mean. But some people are just designed to be difficult. They are oftentimes the 'worker bees' - the ones with enough fire to get mountains of work done. Their energy has a tendency to spill out through their pores - but that doesn't give them the right to run over the rest of the population.

I like the method you describe here, but let me ask you this, if you don't mind. What if you observed someone constantly being spiteful to others? Would you take the same position as you do when someone is spiteful to you? Or would you react more quickly?
